Subject: Max Tire Size?? IP: Logged
Message: Hello-
I have a 2000 Dak Quad Cab 4x2. It came stock with 255 65 R15 tires, but they look whimpy and small. Does anyone know the max tire size I can go to in the 2-wheel drive without any rubbing, either when turning or at max. GVWR??
Someone at Sears told me 31x10.5 R15 but I don't really trust them. Plus I will be putting them on myself to save $$ and won't be able to cry to them if they rub, etc.
Thanks guys

I live in Charleston, SC. I would be happy to sell the tires instead of just chucking them, but they are prolly half or more through their lives.

Message: The 31x10.5's are the largest trie they put on stock Dakotas of your year but that was for the 4x4's. I don't think you are going for that 4x4 look are you? I think you want the widest tires possible that are still about 29 inches tall. Lost of guys run a 28 inch tall, 275 series tire on the 17" rims. A 275/60/15 would be the same overall size as the Nittos everybody runs on the lowered R/Ts so they should easily clear a stock Sport. Lots of companies make that size as well so it should be easy to find. The BfGoodrich Radial T/A's in that size are only about $75 each. I'm sure you could fit wider tires, espically on the back but just nobody makes a 28-29" tall tire wider then 275, at least that I can find. Technically the 275 is wider then a 31x10.5 tire, it would be called a 28x11.0 if it were measured in the same way.
