I have a 97' with keyless entry and i don't like the remote it came with. Its the old square one with the chrysler logo on it. I was wondering if I could get one of the new ones for my 97?

Does anyone know if u can switch it so the lights flash instead of the horn honkin or both? keyless entry is awesome, but i really dont like how the horn honks cause the horn is kinda weak if u ask me.

also u can by the newer style buttons off of ebay. ive seen em there a few times. just take em to a dealership and they can reprogram it for ya.

Does someone know how to reprogram a 1997 dodge dakota with no panic button. I have the original remote that came with it but I bought another on ebay and the dealer wants to charge me $45 to reprogram it. Thanks for the help

he there, I also bought a new remote on Ebay and the owners manual instructions didn't work for me and the dealership wanted me to buy one of theirs ($35) and ANOTHER $35 to program it.
If someone out there has figured out how to do this on their own it'd be a great thing to post.

I have a 2003 Dakota and also had a problem with programing additional transmitters. I did what the owners manual stated but it didn't work. I found out that there was a step missing in the instructions. As soon as I remember the step I will let you know, I have it written down someplace. Roy

I found the remote programming info.!!!!! My 2003 Dakota owners manual page 18 has (Programming Additional Transmitters) There are steps 1 through 12, you have to Add step #3 1/2. After step #3 (Place key into the ign.)add this step #3 1/2 (Push lock button, IN THE DOOR PANNEL, 5 times- with two secounds between pushes). Now go to step #4 (Turn the ignition to the on position, do not start engine.) Complete the rest of the steps in the owners manual. Good luck, let me know how you make out. Roy
