Subject: Mods on a leased Dak? IP: Logged
Message: Hey,
I'm presently leasing a 2002 Dakota and I love this truck. I'll probably wind up buying it out at the end. (I would have financed it but leasing was the better option with my current finances) Anyway, this is my first truck....I'm a newbie. I would like to do some minor mods like Air Intake, maybe swap the TB and possibly relocate the IAT. Would I have any problems as far as with the lease and/or warranty if I do these mods? Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks,
Phil

Message: I've leased my last 3 vehicles, until I bought my new Dak in May. The leasing companies don't look kindly on mods done to "their" vehicles. Unless you're OK with reinstalling all of the old pieces before you turn it in or possibly paying them to return it to stock...yeah, right...I'd leave it alone. Of course, if you're serious about buying the truck at lease end, it might not matter much. I bought my Dak this time expressly for this purpose...so that I could play with it and not worry about lease obligations.
As for warranty, by law, they cannot deny a warranty claim unless it can be proven that the installed part or the installation method caused the problem. This still won't stop a dealer from trying to deny a claim, giving you a bunch of crap over one, or refusing to work on a modded vehicle. Just depends on the dealer and their service policy.

Message: I would not do any mod's you can't undo easly I think you will not keep your truck at the end of the lease. After you hang around here and get more time in your truck you will be ready for a 4.7 or 5.7.
