I do a good bit of offroading and enjoy doing burnouts and racing any that runs on rice. I have been told that if I put alot of stress on my driveline, esspecialy offroading, my stock u-joints wont last long. My truck is a 93 4x4 Dakota w/318, 3.55's, 103,000mi and I would like to know how long I can expect my stock u-joints, front&rear to last with this kind of use? If I plan on any serious offroading, should I replace my stock ones?

If maintained properly (greased is applicable), a decent amount of time. But they still are "stock" U-Joints though. :(

I've been itchin' to change mine out to the "Super Joints" but haven't had any time to actually call the company. You may want to look into these...I ran them on my old Camaro (480HP at the rear wheels with over 500ft.lbs.TQ) and have twisted driveshafts many time with it...never busted a "Super Joint" though.

Hmmm, I've never heard of the "Super Joint". My 4x4 is a '85 Chevy K20 with about 430hp and 475 ft. lbs. of torque. It is a seriously built rig that sees some major rockcrawling and maybe sometimes mud. I was using Dana Spicers but I was still chunking them every so often. I started using Brute Force from Autozone and they are lasting longer than the Dana Spicers. Plus they are not greasable so there is very little up keep. I would say that I can get by with about 5 wheelin trips before I brake one but like I said I do some pretty major 4 wheelin. The U-joints are usually the least of my problems though. On my last trip I:
1. crushed a front fender
2. crushed both rear quarter panels
3. busted a body mount
4. put my 4 core radiator into my fan which not only ruined my radiator but my fan and performance water pump also.
5. put a big dent in my door
6. broke a leaf spring center pin

No u-joint problems on that trip though. I might have to try those "Super Joints". Thanks Bernd.
