 Subject: Bearings and differential oil

My owner's manual suggests I check my wheel bearings and pack if necessary, and change the oil in my front and rear diffs. (40,000 mile service). I would love to save some money and do this in my driveway but I do not know if it is possible without special tools. Any suggestions? Can the bearing be pulled or is it sold as an assembly? Are there drain plugs on the diffs? Please provdivde as much information as you can.

I know that the pumpkins have drain plugs as that is how I changed mine to AMSOIL at 4000 miles. Can't comment on the wheel bearings but I know from previous experience that there are wheel bearing grease packing something or other that helps insure you are fully packed.

On my 2000 the pumpkins do not have a drain plug, I changed the fluid yestarday. You have to open up the pumpkin to empty the fluid out. OR you can suck the fluid out with a vacuum pump, threw the filler plug.
In the next day or so I'll have step by step how-to change the rearend fluid, on my site. I have taken pictures of the whole job I did.

Hey Steve,
I removed the pumpkin to clean the magnet in the rearend, of all the metal particles. There isn't any filters in the pumpkin.
As for the step by step process, I'm going to start doing the write up now and hope to have it done by later on today.
