Hey guys,

Yestarday I changed the fluid in my NV3500 tranny and added (HDD 5w-30), all I can say what a BIG difference. The notchy shifting is almost gone, once the fluid has time to do it's magic it should be all gone. Anyone with a 5spd change that fluid, I couldn't believe what a difference it made.

I also changed the rearend lube and added (Series 2000 75w-90), I have a 3.55 LSD rear. After I finished everything up, I went to an empty parking lot to do 7-8 figure 8's, while I was doing them turning right was fine. But when I'm turning left I get chattering, why this??
Amsoil gear lube comes with friction modifier already in it.

You guys happen to know alot about Amsoil, so what's going on. This is a real piss off!!!!

I made an error, the chattering happens while turning right. NOT left.

I just sent an e-mail to a friend of mine ( Danny at Clinch Brake and Alignment) who knows a whole lot about Dodge and Ford limited slip differentials and racing in general (he also uses AMSOIL in everything)
Just as soon as he sends me an e-mail or calls me I will post the info here.
I have NEVER had a problem when using AMSOIL and since this is a new one on me I figured I need some advice.
I will let you know what I find.

Anthony,
I just spoke with Jim (another friend) over the phone and he said drive it more and let the clutch packs get adjusted to the new fluid, I asked him if he was kidding and he said ... Nope!
Jim also stated that you may have a different wear pattern on the clutch packs due to driving habits or patterns.
Jim said that if this does not do the trick then add 2-3 oz. of the LSD additive and check again.

Thanks Dr.D,

How much driving do I need to do before the fluid wears in?? I thought about adding some friction modifier. But than again that's why I bought Amsoil so I wouldn't have to do this.

Keep me posted, Man!! I'm on pins & needles, I don't want to f%@$ up my rearend.

Thanks,
Anthony

My truck took several days to stop the odd noises coming from the rear-end. I had the diff fluid changed and added two DC friction modifier. The noise will slowly reduce until it's gone. You're fine.

Hey Dr.D,

It's a 2000 Dakota CC Sport Plus 4.7,5spd,4X4,3.55LSD.
I bought the truck brand new right now I have 34,300km on the speedo, which is about 20,000 miles. This is the first time I ever changed the gear oil. I've never had a problem with the rearend before, until now.

I just came back from a 30min drive and the problem is still there, is this chattering causing damage to my gears.

Anthony,
Add 2-3 oz. of the LSD additive, drive it around and then call me in the morning.

Dr. D

p.s.
The chattering will not damage your gears unless you drive it until the clutch packs go out which would take a long time anyway.

Hey Guys,

I added a 4oz bottle of Mopar friction modifier, I then headed to an empty parking lot and did afew figures 8's the vibration is still there. I only feel it when I'm doing tight turns and now I feel it on both left and right turns. I don't feel it on the streets ie: turning at a stop sign. I get some of the feeling through the gas pedal and it feels like an unbalanced wheel, it's not a continuous vibration it's like it skips a beat. I hope you understand what I'm saying it's hard to explain it.
This sh!t is driving me up the wall.

Other than that everything else seems to work great, and my 5spd tranny is shifting so much better. The notchy feeling in the shifts is almost gone. The harder I push it the better it shifts, go figure!!

Thanks,
Anthony

I just recieve an email from Amsoil regarding this matter, here's what they said.

"Sometimes it just take a little while to work in the clutch packs and quiet them down. Even though it chatters, it is not causing any immediate harm to the components."

Well lets see what happens.

on that same note ... how often are you supposed to change those fluids? I just turned 34000 km also, but I was going to wait until I got a new shifter (cause I'm lazy and that way I can fill the tranny from the top).

Guys (Dr. D), there's major confusion here. Anthony has the NV3500 tranny (5 speed fully synchronized MANUAL transmission). It has one clutch plate

"Clutch packs" are part of an automatic transmission. You've been mis-advising Anthony!
