Subject: Cops in Dallas IP: Logged
Message: Ok a cop pulls me over on the service road for "going 54 in a 35" and there was a van beside me and I request to see the radar before I sign the ticket does he have to show me? My friends said he does have to show me the radar. Well the cop says..uhh well how do U know it wasn't the van beside you going 54...and I go exactly how do you know? Then he goes well here in Dallas we don't show the radar...are you gonna sign the ticket? And I say nope not unless I see it then he starts to be an ass and throws the ticket at me and tells me to goto court to take care of it.
So my question is do Dallas cops have to show the radar upon request or was he just saying that?

Message: What a jerk. Sounds like Dallas done hired them a PLANO cop.
Haven't ever seen it in writing, but I always thought it was a state law. Back to the DPS website...
What road were you on, by the way??

Message: In dallas I am not sure but in California if someone asked me to show them the radar gun I do not have to.....however you were lucky because in california if you refuse to sign a ticket you have to be taken before a magistrate immediately who will decide the case. Sounds cool I know but the only way to get to a magistrate is to go to jail and be booked first which means you get arrested........I guess they have loosened their policy in Texas since that seatbelt ticket case where they took some soccer mom to jail and were in turn slapped with a lawsuit...

Message: yes, you do have to be shown the radar if you ask. If they do not, then it proves he didnt have you locked in. Simply bring this up in court and your ticket will be dismissed. And yes, it does sound like a plano cop. Stupid azzholes..

Message: Tim,
I've been searching and searching the Texas DOT and DPS sites for info on this. Can you provide a link to documentation about the law you are speaking of? I personally have never heard anyone in Texas claim they don't have to show their radar.
Mike,
Bummer-the ONLY part of Central I slow down thru is Richardson, service roads inclded. Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this debate.
And don't forget Chris-another victim of the Plano Gestapo!!

Message: Well I just talked to a friend of mine who is on the program called The Explorer's...its a program where someone gets to ride in the passenger seat w/ a cop and watch everything they do and participate in minor activities. Well she got b!tched at at a routine speeding stop when she accidentally erased the speed the cop had them set in at...he told her he could be in a world of trouble if the guy had requested to see his speed on radar.

Message: Kind of off topic, but...
One good thing about living in PA... only state police can use radar. Local cops have to use traditional timing systems. They usually time cars by using two white lines painted on the road, one after the other. All you have to do is slow down in between the lines, and resume speed on the other side.
