Subject: 97 stock airhat question IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
I'm building a cold air intake for my 96 Dak using a 97 airhat. The "nozzle" on the hat has two "tabs" coming off the top of it. This prevents the Fernco coupler from making a good seal. I'm assuming I can just cut them off. Has anyone else run into this? What did you do?
Also, regarding the cold air setup, I've read many folks use a 3" Fernco elbow from the airhat. I bought one and it's too large. I don't think even tightening down the clamp is gonna help, it's just to large in diameter. What's the deal? Should I use a 3" to 2" Fernco straight from airhat to a piece of tubing, then use the elbow to aim the rest of it toward the grill? Now that I've typed that in it seems the most logical design. I think I'll go that route.
BTW, I've talked with some autoshop folks and they said using PVC should not be an issue at all, heat-wise. They recommended I attach a piece near the engine block and drive around for awhile, then see if it's warped in any way. I mounted a 2" tube to the airhat nozzle to simulate the cold air setup. We've had some near 100 degree days and the tube is still perfectly round, no problems noted. Just thought I'd throw that in too.
