Subject: Airaid Filter for 4.7L IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know what size filter is used in
the Airaid setup for a 4.7L? It is oval and
is the perfect size to fit over the stock air
box. If anyone has the part number that would
be even better. I'm thinking of doing a home
brew intake and like the looks of the Airaid.
Thanks.

Message: I ordered an airaid intake, I dont know the size but I do know that it is an oval design. bottom line, it is way better than stock (most anything is.) the K&N system will be the one to get when they put it out (sometime in summer?) but until then the ease of instaling the airaid makes it the one......until the k&n gets here that is...

Message: The filter kit for the 4.7 from Airaid is 10 times better than K&N's. Ive seen some proto type intake's from K&n at last years SEMA show.
The make the same h.p and torque as the Airaid's, but cost twice as much for the name.I have both the intake and throttle body spacer on my 01 4.7 cc. With them on I picked up almost 2 miles to the gallon and noticed a night and day difference in power.

Message: The problem with the Airaid is that it uses the stock air hat. The K&N FIPK Gen II will replace the stock air hat and it WILL gain more hp. Not only that, each bend in the air tube is designed to speed air flow, not slow it down.

Message: I would like to see the "proof",that the airaid and Z-tube makes real HP.All they do is make a cool sound and suck a lot of hot air from under the hood. I have seen dyno tests on the F&N FIPK {HotRod and Mopar magazine}on a R/T and others, and they do make HP.You get what you pay for.

Message: Hmmmm i was thinking about the z-tube, but i have just been holding out for more paychecks to pile up... most likly when i have the money to buy, and the k&n is out, i'll probably get it...
but what is this "cool sound" that the z-tube produces... :)

Message: It sounds like a catback exhaust from inside the cab when you get up over 2600 rpm but outside there isn't any reall difference in sound. I find it feels like it's made a bit more power.

Message: The cool sound is{no pun intended]if you took off the air cleaner on a big old carburetor and put the petal to the metal. The name of the game,is to get all the "cool" air and gas in the TB.

Message: I dropped the Airaid kit into my '00 4.7 SLT. Aside from all the extra noise, I haven't gotten the *noticable* extra power. But it sounds nice.
Here's my logic on air intakes... Unless the intake is truly breathing cooler air, you're no better off than the stock air filter. Granted that the K&N filter is more porous than the stock paper that Chrysler installs; If the air is warmer, you haven't gained any performance. Just sucking in more hot air... HOT air is not what you want.
This is where the cold air dam comes into play. The Air dam isolates the air filter from the rest of the engine. The air dam extends the factory airbox walls a little higher until it meets the underside of the hood of the Dakota.
Yes, the Airaid uses the factory hose, and this is a loss. However, you're NOT going to see the difference unless you have access to a dyno.
The ultimate combination would be a smooth po boy intake with the oversized Airaid K&N filter with the Airaid cool air Dam. That is, unless you can get your po boy intake tube outside your car to suck in some real cool air.
