01 q/c had truck to dealer 2days ago for problem of finding a puddle of water underpassenger side carpet. dealer said drain was clogged. have had truck back no more then 48hrs and decide to ck under carpet just to make sure and to my surprise the carpet padding was wet again.... i can see the drain under the truck which is located behind the transmission dipstick. although the dealer claims he unclogged it i did myself just to make sure my rigging a smaller tube connected to the end of a wet vac with tape and inserted into the drain hole. didnot get anything out of it but it couldnot hurt... i let the the truck run for approx 15 min and a big puddle formed under the truck like its supposed to i even crawled under neith while truck and a/c was running just to make sure. looks like water coming out of drain is almost being blown out. i did notice however that after shuting of the the truck much less water comes out of the drain. is this normal? although water is draining it appears that the passenger side floor board is getting wet when the a/c off somehow the water is draining back. it appears it is coming from high up on the floor almost were floor and fire wall begin right behind the drain.... has any one else had this problem? what is the fix? what is causing this? truck goes back to dealer aug 7 for 2nd time for this........ sorry so long

Moday morning I went to the delaer to get the child seat tether straps they lost when resealing the rear window, there were customers lined up complaining about water on passenger floor. Just from what I have been told by the service writer and just overhearing conversations at the service counter on my 3 recent trips there I believe this is a bigger problem than dodge wants to admit.

I also have a 02 cc 4.7 4x4.Due to the replies from everyone I went out to check my rear benchseat and the carpeting around it for water. Well I found what I was looking for. There was about 2 cups of water. The AC appeared to be draining but, not as well as I thought it should be. I took it to the dealership with all your AC drain problem comments. They said they only had 2 previous complaints with the same problem in the past. I thought the water could also be from the 3rd brake light too. Every Wed. they have a private company that comes in to test for vehicle water leaks. They resealed my back window,3rd brake light and pulled out my seats, shampooed the carpet and currently have everything out and drying. As for the AC line, they say they fixed it. I don't know exactly how yet. I will keep you posted once I speak to the service manager. I will still monitor this problem closely and the manager says he is going to put out a service bulletin on the problem. We will see what the future holds.

On my 97 there was water coming out of the drain, but at a reduced rate. Sealed where the drain entered the firewall and placed a 1/2 barbed 90 (plastic lawn sprinkler part "Home Depot")inside the drain pipe. No leaks since fix!

Graphite, you might do this as preventive maint.

I have a 98 Dakota slt, I too also have a problem with water leaking in on my front passenger floor from the rear window. When I took it to the dealer to fix, I was told it would cost $600.00 to fix. Chrysler is willing to go 1/2. I am wondering what type of sattisfaction others have gotten as far as fixing this problem. This is a problem that I have had previously repaired in the past when I first bought the vehicle. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!

im a servie tech for dodge in grand priarie texas. there is a TSB out for this problem but its not in the MDS yet. 01 and 02 Daks dont come with an A/C drain tube on the HVAC housing. the TSB concerns installing a tube, drying the carpet and inspecting the carpet and padding for mold. A drain tube is not a serviceable part through Diamler-Chrysler but the a/c drain tube we use is for a 93-94 Dodge Spirit. Have not had any problems with these tubes and no comeback for water leaks.

Mike, I'm a bit confused by your statement that '01 and '02 Daks don't come with an AC drain tube on the HVAC housing. My '02 has the short drain tube that exits through the firewall, and is visible behind the transmission dipstick. Is this what you're talking about? There is a metal deflector just below the tube, which diverts the water away, so that it doesn't drip directly onto the hot exhaust pipes. I bent this out a little bit, so that it didn't touch the drain tube itself. Why would my '02 Dak have a drain tube, if others do not?

If the newer Daks don't have the drain tube, how is condensation cleared from the housing? How do you mount the drain tube from the older Spirit...location, etc.? Sorry for all the questions, could you clarify them for us? Thanks...P

For the second time I noticed my padding on the passenger side of the truck was wet. It's hard to notice without removing the trim and pulling the carpet up and feeling underneath it. You might be suprised to see yours is wet too.
Anyhow I found about 2 gallons of clear water under my carpet, it ended up being the AC housing drain seal was bad. It allowed water to drain down my firewall and get under the carpet (so you don't actually see any drips). See check your pad on the passenger side often.

The Dealer was familier with the problem, he told me it happens on a lot of Dakotas and Durangos.

Mine had a drain on the outside of the firewall, and it wasn't clogged up, it was seeping through the broken seal. And you can't actually see it leak, so just go to the dealer and have them check out that seal.

Have a 1991 dakota. driver side floor is wet. Since most posts are about the passengers side, was wondering if this also could be a bad air seal. Thanks, Noel

Mine did this as well. Take off passenger tire. Punch out pop rivets on inner fender well and remove, there not reusable but cheap at Harbor freight. Buy some silicone and build a large bead under the HVAC drain where it comes through the fire wall. You have to use liberally the drain is a bad design and water from A/C rolls back into the truck through the firewall. That drain port has to be sealed below it cover all the black foam with silicone so when the water rolls back it hits silicone and falls to the ground
