Message: I found a picture in(http://detnews.com/autosweekly/0102/07/sidebar/sidebar.htm) of a redesigned model for 2003. I really don't know the veracity of this because I don't found any other information about it. Can anyone tell me is this is the model for 2003??. Thanks a lot!!!

Message: The 2003 Dakota will remain the same. The new redesign will be out in `04 ,or maybe even `05, from all the reports I`ve read.

Message: where did you read the reports for '04 or '05 introduction for the dakota?
I heard rumors '03 and was wondering if any pictures were released of the new design. Looks like from Valcourt that '03 is right but my guess is it isn't going to look quite like the MAXX cab shown.....

Message: To be honest , I don`t remember where I read it. It was online somewhere...maybe car and driver or motortrend online. I do recall it being a reputable source. There`s no way it will make it out for `03, or they would be advertising the crapola out of it by now.

Message: read excerpt below......
"Dodge Dakota and Durango
The Dakota and Durango will receive a new, hydroformed frame produced by Ontario's Magna International. It is lighter than the current frame, but equally strong. [GM has used hydroformed frames with much success].
The Durango will go further upscale and look different from the Dakota in front, with an upgraded interior. We expect that they will have the usual new engine compliment: 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8, 5.7 V8 Hemi. The shape of the next Durango may be hinted at by the fast, efficient PowerBox concept.
A hybrid-electric Dodge Durango was set for production in the 2003 model year, but has been cancelled. Perhaps the two will be redesigned from the ground up instead of from current models? We do hope that the Dakota suspension is used on the next Durango, since it seems, paradoxically, far better. Note that one possibility is for the current Dakota, despite its strengths, to be replaced by a Mitsubishi derivative. Another possibility is for the Dakota and Mitsubishi pickups to be merged.
In any case, the redesigned Dakota pickup will appear for the 2004 model year, moving away from the Ram in appearance and toward the M80, while losing some size and weight to differentiate itself from the Ram. The engines will be not-surprising, the 3.7, 4.7, and maybe the Hemi.
The Durango will appear the next year, still based on the Dakota."
Not what I wanted to hear!!! I don't want to see the Dakota get smaller (I was hoping for bigger.) Looks like I'll keep my Ram.

Message: If they did merge the Dakota and the Mitsubishi you would probably end up with a better truck. I just don't know what it would look like, only "they" do.
