Did you need to remove the windshield wipers to get the cowling off? I have the leak on the drivers side.

Message: Who would have thought a website exists for this mess. I have a 2000 Dakota 2wd 4.7L 8cyl. I coughed up the loot to fix a busted a/c evaporator. Now I have water on the passenger side carpet when it rains. Never a drip before that work was done. I read every post on this site and I agree with everyone's explanation because why would any of us make any of this up.

Message: The leak had nothing to do with the rain. The new a/c part behind the glovebox in the dash drains directly onto the floor. I took everything out of the cab short of the steering wheel to find it.

Message: The mechanic put the new a/c core in correctly so this time it drains outside my vehicle instead of inside. What a disgrace.

Message: Well I to am a victim of this. I have just ripped up the carpet, took out the passenger seat, passenger seat belts (were getting in my way and tripping on them), the passenger side plastic moldings/covers/panels. Rear seats, storage unit, and back panel. Only thing left in is the dash, center console (put back in after removing carpet), driver side seat. everything in the rear has been removed, and there is a small area on a joint that look to be where it has traveled, but other then that, cant find it anywhere.
Will be checking Corey's idea now, and putting on a 90 degree elbow and some hose to drop it down to below the cab.

Message: Ok well I just tested the rear window seeing how the factory sealant, the goldish yellowish goop was dark and moldy at the rear passenger corner of the cab, well i found the entrance, but idk where there as it comes down the rear of the cab, but then it goes back behind another body panel, and cant tell from in there where it is coming from.
Gonna call my local dodge dealer, as my chrysler dealer is also a suzuki dealer, its strange lol.

Message: I found my problem this weekend. I know my problem is from the A/C as I did not run it or the defroster at all this winter or spring. It's stays dry until I run the A/C.
I tore apart the entire dash! Completely removed it from the vehicle. Still you cannot get to the area where it leaks, unless you want to drain the coolant and A/C to remove both cores. But I was able to simulate condesation by removing the freeze sensor which opened up a large hole looking right at the core. I sprayed water in there on the core and let it run out the drain. It seemed to drain just fine. It ran out just as fast as it was going in. I could not find any leak for a long time. I just about gave up when I took one more look and what do you know. I found the leak. Like others in this post, it was the foam seal between the drain and the firewall. It took awhile for the foam seal to saturate and them leak. I cut the backing away and tore out the seal. I use large amounts of urathane sealer (just lke what they use around the front window). And then for good measure I silicone around that. I then ran the water at a low flow for half an hour and no leak. Spent the rest of the day putting it all back together. I know now that I would not have had to tear so much apart, but it helped to find the leak. Good luck to the rest of you.

Message: Got behind the insulation on my 2001 and tracked the wet up to the drain. Finally found the dratted drain outside so I'm going to try the elbow and some tubing. For those of you still trying to find it, one of the above posts pinpoints it. Find the transmission dipstick and follow the tube down about as far as you can reach. It's just off to the side on the passenger side. BTW, I have the 4.7 V8. Seems that's the predominate problem with the Type II from what I've read here.

Message: It's now 2015 and the post is still going! I have a
2000 dakota 5 spd, 2.5L 4 cyl. Well, I think I
located my leak. Around the drain tube on the
firewall (under hood) looked like the paint was
bubbling. I touched it and it was rusted right thru.
I killed it will silicone sealer. We shall see what
happens after I let it set overnight.
