Subject: RE: water found on pass floor board! help IP: Logged
Message: Well, I'm glad I'm not alone. Have a 95 SLT ext cab, same problem. I bought a small wet vac to keep sucking out the water. My wife sneezes like crazy when she sits in the truck, allergic to mold! I had my windshield replaced twice thinking that was the problem...NO! I bought some silicone thinking I would figure it out, now I have a few leads with this website. I have water on both sides on the floor in the front and sometimes in the rear mostly behind the driver side, sometimes both sides. This happens only when it rains, but sometimes not at all, depending how I'm parked; haven't figured out which direction yet though. I like the theory about the seams, and possibly the upper door gaskets, best I can tell it's not the ac or the windshield. I'll post my results. Thanks....

Message: I siliconed the seams along the top edges of the cab on both sides and down to the edge of the cab rear window. So far it actually looks as though it's working. Have had a couple of light rains. The next heavy rain may tell whether it's for real, but so far so good.

Message: I sealed the 2 seams on both sides of the cab down to the back window and it seems to have worked. We have had some heavy rain and melting snow and looks dry on the floor all the way. Before this fix, I would have had an inch of water on the floor. Hope it stays that way.

Message: This post keeps going becuase not everyone in the world knows about it. My step father bought his first Dodge in the spring of 2004, a '98 4x4 xtra cab dakota with 98k. We don't use AC here much in Minnesota, so I know that isn't the problem, that and he doesn't use it even if it is hot enough. He's only had the truck for about a year and bought it during the spring of 2004 while we still had snow. It didn't leak until around August/September of 2004. It only leaks during rain. The harder the rain, the greater the leak. It doesn't have to be driven to leak either. Unfortunately it won't be until springtime/summer until we can check this problem when it's warm enough to actually test for leaks. From what I gather, the '98 and same body style years have leaks at the windshield cowl holes like Corey mentioned, rear window seal leaks, and firewall seam leaks. We'll be checking all 3 when the weather permits.

Message: Well looks like Dodge is still having problems with pass. floorboard on the Dakota. I have a 2005 QC and has 1400 miles. and the water drips in pretty heavy after I wash it or if it rains. Not the rear window and not the upper windshield. I ran water just below the windshield and water came rushing in. I took it to the dealer and he said a nut was loose and they are putting sealant there and retightening the nut. Can't wait to get it home and put water on it.

Message: Still dealing with the water issue, sometimes! The first problem I found was water getting trapped in a cavity behind the passenger kick panel. Seems as though some idiot at the factory got a little trigger happy with the seam sealer gun. Water that finds its way to this cavity is supposed to drain. I gouged the foam with a long screwdriver and a gush of water came out. The a/c unit supplies the floorboard with water on occasion as well. My truck is an 04 r/c, plain jane truck, so I nixed the carpet (don't like carpet anyway) and just use rubber floormats. On the bright side, I'll never have to be concerned with overheating or dying of thirst - got a constant supply of distilled water! Thanks Chrysler!

Message: Got my dakota back and put water around the bottom of windshield, guess what, still leaks. I took out the fan assy, because that's where it was dripping. I put my hand up inside and the foam (dust) seal was soaked. It appears to be coming from the area on the top of heater assy. where a screen is. Guess it's back to the dealer come Monday morning.
Hey anyone doing a "class action" count me in!!

Message: man, I give up!
I have posted the fix...and I am willing to bet it would solve 99% of these posts.
Still, it looks as though only 1 person has actually read it, tried it, and suprise suprise, his leak is now gone.
The answer is right in front of you folks!

Message: Corey you may be correct in the fix, but I'm not going to fix it. It's under warranty, let them find it and fix it. I have plenty of other vehicles to use while they run in circles. I told the shop foreman to look at this site and he got a little upset.

Message: By the way after 4 days I did get it back and washed it today and no water on the floor board.
They told me they replaced a part in the cowl area.
But they did get grease on my seat and tried to clean it up but now I have a large discolored spot on the drivers seat. Will take it back and have that taken care of. Don't you just love warranty work.

Message: Thanks to everyone who posted tips. I found my passanger side leak to be the foam seal for the AC drain tube. I took the carpet out, cut the firewall pad with a utility knife, then cut one side of the foam seal and pulled it out with pliers. I used marine silicone to fill the hole in the firewall. If anyone would like me to email detailed pictures of what I did I can e-mail them to you.

Message: I've been troubleshooting water found on the pasenger floor and after replacing and resealing the passenger door gasket I removed the inside rear side panel, rear panel, and the rear seat in the extended cab. Using a garden hose and localizing where I squirted the water at the window seal from outside I found the leak at my rear window, lower section, passenger side. My problem now is how do I remove the rear window and replace the seal or reseal it?
Any expert advice is appreciated! Lesson learned; don't try for a fix until you understand your problem (grasshopper).

Message: I have a 1993 xtended cab 4X4 LE so far I have spent $300 on fix its and still get water in on passenger side when it rains. Not much but enough to make it frustrating. It usually comes in more if I park the truck on a hill with the front up hill a little and leaning to the passenger side of the truck. Any body out there got a fix.
