Subject: Cat back exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I would like to install an after market cat-back exauhst like Flowmaster, Gibson, Borla, etc. and do not have access to any welding equipment. I took a look under my 93 4x4 Dakota w/318 and there appears to be a few clamps. I would like to know if this is a project I could do in my driveway in on a weekend? Would there be a good chance of leaks with just using clamps? What is the diameter of my exauhst system pipe? Also, if I had a leak in my cat, would it be fairly simple to replace using basic hand tools?

Message: I replaced my exhuast on my 00 with a 3" flowmaster cat-back. All I needed was a hacksaw, wrenches, and some grease to get the old hangers off. I dont have any welds on my new exhuast, just the clamps and there are no visible leaks. This took me about 3-4 hrs to complete.

Message: andrew, your going to have to do some welding to install that cat-back, you're going to catch hell trying to put it on unless you can raise your dak pretty high, i got my flowmaster cat-back put on at a muffler shop with 18" long chrome tail pipes cut at a 45 degree angle

Message: Hey Albert, after replacing your stock exaust with Flowmasters, did you notice an increase in torque or hp? Are there instructions with the Flowmasters and was installation very difficult?

Message: Hey Joel, typicaly, what does an exaust upgrade run at a muffler shop and did you buy them there or through another source?

Message: Depends on the kind you buy. Borla's are expensive, ~$400 before installation. The good part, they're warranted for life, made of T-304 stainless. I had a professional muffler shop install it for $60. No clamps, welding from the cat all the way back to the tip.
