Message: When I have my a/c on and I stop and get out of my truck, i hear water dripping on the exhaust and hear a nice little fizzzz...
I looked at the "outlet" where the water is said to come out and it doesn't look like it's coming outta there. Is there something I shoudl check... nothings going wrong... i was just curious if anyone else has had this.

my 2000 Quad 4.7.
Brought it to the dealer and they told me
it was normal for it to do that.
Let me know if you hear any different.

Message: Check the carpet under your floormats to see if there is any water leaking into the cab. I had this same sizzle thing going on and then suddenly noticed my passenger side floor soaked in like 1 inch of water. Took it to the dealer and it turns out that the drain seal of the ac housing was cracked. Dealer replaced it and dried out the truck and I have had no problems since.
This was on a 2002 Club Cab Sport with 7000 miles on it

Message: Another Scott here, Yep my 02 QC AWD use to do the same thing. Carpet was soaked , and it made the sizzlin` sound. I found my carpet by accident, I was running some wires under the carpet and ...boy was it wet!
I put 2and2 together and realized what was happening. I fixed mine myself , only because I know what a bunch of numbnuts they are at my local dealer.
If you trust your dealer, take it in and have them fix it. You might get a new carpet out of the deal.

Message: Mine did that about two weeks ago. What it is, is the AC drainoff is RIGHT above the y-pipe -- at least for me it is.
So when I've been running in the high heat on the highway all day with the A/C 2/3 of the way up, when I come to along stop or park, it's really draining a good amount of water on a very hot exhaust pipe.
If you look under your truck on the passenger side, you will see water drop onto the pipe, then turn to steam immediately. Hell, the pipe isn't even wet.
So answer to your question, yupp, I've had and got it. It's only when the exhaust pipes are REALLY hot and I've been running the engine all day.

Message: xplikt,
Have you checked under your carpet yet?
If not , you should. It`s probably wet.
It is a problem with every 4.7 Dakota that I know of. I have a buddy that works in the bodyshop at the local dealer , and when I said something to him , he knew all about it.
He also said to remove the 3rd brake light , apply some caulk or seamsealer around it and put it back on. Seems as though water leaks into the cab and runs to the front floorboard.
I`m doing mine this weekend.

Message: I experienced the same sound. I automatically attributed it to the condensation dripping from the A/C canister onto a part of my exhaust. It's that Chrysler's way of trying to get rid of the puddle left underneath the truck so it doesn't look like it's leaking any number of fluids? =)

Message: I have checked under my carpet because I remember reading on that a while back on here. So the next time I was leaving a big puddle under the truck, I peel up the floor mat and... nothing, perfectly clean and dry under my CatchAll mats.
MightyDakSXT ,that also crossed my mind at the time. I thought, could it have been an actual design to stop puddling? Then I looked again another time -- and it might be the fact I do not have a third cat -- and the pipe wasn't hot enough from normal driving to turn it to steam.
If that's a common problem with the third brake lights, it never hurts to put a lil bead in there for more protection. My truck sits outside in the winters all night and day unprotected from any shelter.

Message: Last month I was running my air since it got into the 90's here and was humid. Well, I noticed a sour smell coming from my vents when I first turned the air on. I remembered reading a post on here about the evaporator core drain being plugged on the newer Daks, so that was the first thing I checked. For those of you that have found it, you know what a dumb place Dodge put it. It's like right behind the cylinder head on the passenger side firewall. I couldn't even see it from up top. I went under the dash on the passenger side and could see where the evaporator core housing tapers down to the firewall on the inside. I put a rag on the dash over the area I though it was so I could follow it down on the engine compartment side. I ended up finding it by crawling under my truck and looking up behind that passenger side cylinder head. I took a screw driver and wedged in the hole and twisted it around a bit. Then gush...a face full of foul water. Now it drains ok. I didn't find any wet carpet and I always look for it draining on hot days after I park places. A good thing to check for those of you that haven't yet...

Bwahahahaha, that's pretty funny!
A better way is to just get an air compressor and give it a lil spurt of air up there every now and then -- if you have a compressor that is.
What did it taste like?

Message: I really didn't get a taste. My mouth was closed, but my forehead got it pretty good.
I did notice that if you have your blower on low, it seems like nothing is coming out. When I turn it on meduim or high, a lot of water drains. It's almost like there is some sort of valve or lip at the base of the drain that requires higher blower speeds to force the water out.

Message: Well I haven't had any problems from my A/C it dripps and leaves a nice puddle of water on humid day's. The water in the passenger side floor does happen time to time due to pluged A/C drain, or a Heater-Core Leak. As for the sizzling more than likly it is the Orifice-Tube in the A/C system.
If you don't know the Orifice-Tube seperates the High Side and the Low Side of the A/C system. It also keeps Freon in the Liquid State from reaching the Compresser. Basically it is a restriction in the line and it is located in the front of the Radiator next to the Condencer. When you turn your Truck off after running your A/C, your High and Low sides are unballanced. They have to equal out so the High side drains over to the Low side through the Orifice-Tube wich causes the sizzling sound.
I hope I helped yuh out..............

Message: JRM,
That could be a reason why some hear a strange sound , but mine was water dripping on the hot exhaust. I`d say one way to know , is if there is no puddle of water under your truck. As I`ve said before , this is a VERY commen problem for Dodge.
I don`t know why they haven`t fixed it yet.It must be cheaper to pay the techs at the dealer to fix only the ones where people actually complain , rather that redesign the thing completely or fix them all on the assembly line.

Message: I dunno about the rest of you, but I have a '98 and the owner's manual explicitely says that there will be noise from the air even after it's turned off. That said, mine's louder than usual this year. Carpet's clean and it makes a nice little puddle in the parking space. Oh well; must be more humid than usual.
