Subject: vapor lock?

Message:
My 89 f. injected Dodge dak stalls on hot days. Always starts in the cool nmorning! When it stalls, the engine gauge does not read as HOT. I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the injectors and it STILL does it. I was told possibly a weak fuel pump. Any ideas? Thanks!

Jennyen-

Have you tried pulling the codes? Turn your ignition off and on 3 times. On the third time the check engine light will flash the codes to you. A 55 means it's done.

Vapor Lock went away with in-tank fuel pumps. The lines are fully pressurized. Vapor lock used to occur when the pump was on the engine. It would create a low pressure area in the line going to the tank and on hot days the fuel would vaporize in the line.

The only things I can think of are a bad MAP sensor, bad gas, or like Bob mentioned an ignition problem. When it stalls, does it start right back up? If not, check for spark right away. Then you know if there isn't any, it's an ignition problem. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. It is not the gas, as I have had this problem with gas direct from my regular Conoco place as usual. Replaced the pick-up sensor and am waiting for the results. A computer test showed it had failed several times. Sometimes it starts right back up, sometimes it takes an hopur of cool down. Does it matter that I cannot smell gas? It is not flooding, which I think is odd....
