Subject: F'd up my guauges... IP: Logged
Message: I need some help. I just replaced my gauges with some reverse indiglo gauges from procarparts.com.
The small needle rests do not fit in the holes on the new guages(the holes are too big). In addition, the readings are a little off. My idle RPM's is reading low, and I think that my speedometer is low also. I know some people have had problems with this before, but a search of the forum turned up nothing. Any advice/help? Thanks!!

I ran into a similar problem with the needle stops and I used a little hot glue. Put some glue in the holes and gently press in the pins and hold until it sets. If you don't have hot glue, you should be able to use just about any clear glue as you really don't need that much holding power.
As for the gauges reading low, pop the tach needle (and whatever other needles that are off)off and replace when the engine is idling and warmed up.
To check the speedometer you can do a couple things. Find a friend and tag along doing different speeds. have him/her signal you at predertimined speeds (35, 45, 55, 65, etc). If you speedo is off pull over and and reset until you're on.
The other option is if you can maintain a constant 60 mph for one minute you go 1 mile. This can get a little tricky if the highway is busy :-)

Unfortunately I don't know where you could find the needle stops if the junkyard doesn't have any. I doubt if the parts department has them, but it might be worth a call.

Message: I know that there is a procedure for getting the gauges to do a sweep-test type diagnosis. There have been a couple of threads on the Durango Owners Club board a while back, but I don't know what model years this will work in. I'll try to dig up those old threads tonight when I get home.

Message: I think I read somewhere that you can hold you trip, reset button in for a while and it will reset you gauges, Im not sure. I also have some of those gauges comming in, they should be here in a couple of days.

Message: I don't know about the r/t's but with my sport what I did to set my needles proper I started the engine then set the tach needle, I knew idle was around 700 when warm, then to get the speedo, I knew that when in 5th gear and doing 2000rpm my speedo reads 100km/h or 60 mph.
get someone to do a test for you in drive with o/d off and at a set rpm to find out what speed you should be.
How do you like the reverse indiglo's, I have the apc indiglos and they are shyte, I'm on my second set ready for a third cause they quite working, on my first set the transformer on the power lead melted the box caseing and whatever else was inside. Another thing what is the name of the company that makes the reverse indiglo is it procarparts or another place like apc??? If another place what is the name and is there a part number on the packageing.

Message: I have an entire used instrument cluster from a 97 dak if you're interested low99dakota.
It works fine and is completely intact. You could use the needle stops off of it if you want and sell it later on.
$30 shipped? let me know

To test all the Lights and Analog (at laeast on my '99) so the following...
With ingnition off hold the odometer reset button in with your finger. While still holdin it in turn the ignition switch all the way ON but don't start the motor. After a few seconds the odometer will show that it is in diagnostic mode and you can let go of the reset button. all the lights will flash and the guages will sweep through there motions, low, medium, and high. Then a code is supposed to be displayed in the odometer but I haven't figured that part out yet.. Good luck
Hope that works...if it does, you may want to let us know. It would be worthwhile information to keep handy for all those people that do white face gauge installs.

Message: just hold in the trip reset button before turning the key. turn it two clicks, but not ON.
continue to hold and the gauges will read CHEC
after that you can let go and let the gauges cycle through some system diagnostics. lights, gauge sweep function. lastly, the gauges will go to a 10, 12, 2 o'clock positions. that way you can see where the needles should be and re-place accordinly.
this works on my 00 5.9, YMMV
