Subject: A/C won't shut off? IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone had a problem where the A/C seem to be on at all times?
I swear that's whats going on with my 2000 dak.
Even when i don't have it set to the little snowflake thing it blows ice cold air.
Maybe this has something to do with the incredibly lousy gas mileage i'm getting too.

Message: The a/c runs in about every setting, not just the ones with the snlowflake. About the only place it shouldn't run is with it set to the floor vents only, or turned off. I think this sucks, in our climate when I run defog, it's really to defrost the window, I don't think the a/c is really helping things when the humidity is zero and it's 10 degrees outside!

I've noticed the same thing, seems this is somewhat inconsistent though, mine will run the A/C in the bi-level mode (even though there is NO 'snowflake' picture next to that setting) and also in defrost mode. The defrost mode is normal, however - almost ALL cars do this, to dehumidify the air that would otherwise fog up the windshield.
But there is definitely a problem with either the way the switch is wired for the bi-level setting, or the way Dodge printed the markings on it! Very confusing if this is what they meant for it to do, I agree!!!!

Message: I work for a company that makes these swtiches and here's a little background on whats going on. Don't shoot the messenger here, we have to do what Dodge want's.
The heater switch is working perfectly. Dodge decided to remove the snowflake and leave the wiring alone in the Bilevel position to make some customers happy. Some people complained they didn't want the AC in Bilvel and some really wanted it to run. In the end it's pretty misleading. In Defrost there is no snowflake either, but in this situation its pretty standard across every vehicle platform, GM, Ford or Imports that the AC runs in Defrost or Mix modes
As far as the AC running when it's 10 degrees. The cold temp should cause the low pressure cycling switch in the refrigerant system to open up, so I wouldn't expect the clutch to run.

Message: Well that's pretty stupid if you ask me.
So there is no way to just blow air through the vents without running the A/C?

Message: Yes you can get just outside aire, with no AC but only in the Panel(Face) and Floor(Foot)positions.
