Subject: Gas Gauge Sender Tips IP: Logged
Message: Well I went and ordered the fuel sending unit for my '97 dakota 2.5L. The wrong part came in, and the guy at the dealer said he couldnt come up with the right part # as dodge said they all switched to the '98 and later style (or something to this effect).
We tryed the Ram sending unit as it seemed identical- it didnt work.
I was frustrated, I noticed the original sending unit has a burn mark at the 1/8 spot (this is also where my gauge stoped working).
I cleaned it up, removed the "burn mark" if you will and it works perfect now. Im really not sure why the mark was on the ciruit board as it was however it fixed my problem. I was able to test the operation by plugging it in while the tank was dropped and play with it and watch the gauge as I did so.
Anyways im very happy about the sending unit, any idea where this burn mark came from? I was wondering if it was simply corrosion from a bad gas at one point.
If anyone needs help with dropping the tank email me and I can give you some help, although its very basic.
