Well, I am getting rid of my 99' Dakota and buying something new. I have decided on either a R/T or WRX. Both look good and are fast but I can't decide. Both are priced the same as well. What do you guys think?

I look at this way when you get rid of a TRUCK your gonna need it the next day . So buy the R/T the WRX is cool but if your gonna buy a AWD car wait and buy the Mits EVO now that a driving machine

They are completely different. My brother has had his WRX about 3 months longer then I have had my R/T. The RC R/T was quite a bit less then a WRX but I suppose a completely loaded CC R/T may be about the same as a basic WRX wagon. My brothers WRX sedan has most available options besides the BBS wheels and was a good $8000 more then what I could have bought a basic RC R/T new at the time for. I'd take his car over my R/T for about 4-5 months out of the year, but most of the year I prefer my truck. A manual WRX will pretty much beat a RC R/T by 1/2 to 1 sec in the 1/4 mile with an agressive, 3000 rpm clutch dump launch. The WRXs have a ton of mods out now like the R/T but I still feel there is more untapped potential in the R/T. Just imagine what a turbo/intercooler setup would do on an R/T. There are quite a few low buck mods to get more boost out of a WRX as well, and it's motor is just designed to handle more boost then a 360 ever was. Then again at 2.0 compared to 5.9 liters it has to. Personally, if you don't need AWD I'd wait and see what the SRT neon will do, it should be a good 1/2 second quicker then the WRX with less weight and similar power and it will cost under $20,000 all day. I bet a good dealer with a farm rebate would get one for under $18,000. Something needs to be done about the wings on those things though...

sooo nice. It would be fun for the snow, but it
only snows in SO cal 4 or 5 months out of the
year.
get a RC 4.7 5 spd and throw on a kenne bell,
you will be untouchable by most WRX's runnin
around. and probably still cheaper.

Take a Wrx sedan. They sell performance packs including boost control which make these things scream 10's. Plus u gotta love the Awd.

The R/T should be a good bit cheaper in a regular cab than the wrx. Even if they were the same price I would choose the dakota even though the wrx is faster. It's all about attitude. The Dakota looks bad ass. The WRX looks kinda, well...................wimpy.

If you bought an R/T and the only mod you bought was the M-1 intake you could take a WRX. Yes the WRX is all wheel drive but I got some traction bars madeup and it pulls right outta the whole now. Plus its fun when your in a truck and you can hang w/ the high performance cars like the stangs and camaros & especially fun when you burn the ricers.

Test drive them both. The WRX handles so nice and it can be made considerably faster from stock with very simple modifications, but the R/T is just damn mean.
Either way, they both cook rice.

Dakotas just look mean as hell, specially dropped RT's

Well I wish I wear in the same postion as you!!! The WRX will thrill the he11 out of you! THe best part is that their are a ton of aftermarket performance parts and this little jewel realy responds to simple bolt on mods. If you ever need to hual anything the WRX is out of the question! The WRX makes up for lack of utility with fun factor. If you like to take corners hard you will like it.

Thanks for the great replys guys! I really apreciate it. You all have helped by sharing your views. Now, I love Dakotas. They are the best looking mini ever made. Plus throw in a V8 and you have one hell of a machine. But on the other hand what every one really wants is a great handling and well performing vehicle that will turn heads and gain respect form people. Am I right? But I don't really have a use for a truck. I don't even have room in my bed because of stereo equipment. I have a cut through with 6 12" subs and 4 amps. When I go to shows I have to take a friend along in another vehicle just to carry my lugage. But I do like Dodges new 7 year warranty. I guess I am stuck with the thought that trucks arn't really made to be sports cars. If you want a sports car, buy a sports car. Sure they make performance parts for us but you can't beat all wheel drive and a turbo. Does any one know of quarter mile times for the R/T and WRX? Thanks again!!!

Well for one you can get a tonneau cover for your amps and luggage. Speedtweaks has developed a turbo kit for the R/T...if you've ever seen a V6 w/ a turbo imagine what a V8 will do. And trust me I've had more head turns and people stopping me than I've ever had in my life to ask me about my truck.

Jesse, im with you! i was thinking of getting rid of my truck to get to get a WRX because of the handling, and accelation. im not just a straight line racer... i would LOVE to auto-X and rally race the car!!
a magazine got a 14.0 in the 1/4 stock! i talked to a guy who built his own boost controller, turned up the boost from 11psi to 15psi, and got a 13.7!
i say if you dont NEED a truck, get the REX.. it gets better mpg too!

why not wait and get that new nissan 350Z...thats a hot car for around the same price and i bet it would toast an R/T and probably take out a WRX(as long as the road is dry).
as for R/T vs WRX...that is a tough one..on one hand you have the WRX with more speed and AWD but the R/T is just pretty awsome looking...i dunno. I say get the WRX....the gas milage on the 5.9 is awful and it still wont even be faster.

cant spin the tires in a WRX...also ull have to stop coming here and hering me bable that alone is incentive enough to get a WRX. WRXs are stupid looking though.

Subarus rock. Almost got an Impreza RS myself, ended up with the Dakota because it's more 'flexible'. My mom got an Outback, darn does that thing rule. It's a station wagon, it's fun to drive, and it hauls butt!
I know someone with a WRX, he never lets me drive it. Funny, that, since I installed his cat-back exhaust and blow-off valve you'd think I earned -something-. You can't put a lot of cargo in a WRX though... we had to use my truck to pick up the exhaust for it, and to go get his new couch. It really is going to depend on what your going to use it for.
