Subject: A way to keep miles off, is this normal?

I have a 2002 Dakota 4.7L 5-speed. When I am driving, I can turn the key back just a hair, and it turns off the A/C and a couple of idiot lights come on on the dash and the truck stays running. When I turn it about 1/32 of an inch further back the speedometer stops working, and the odometer is on, but the miles do not increase (regular or trip meter). All of the other guages and the RPM's still work. Is that something that is wrong with my ignition switch, or can you guys do the same.

Interesting. I could have only 2990 miles on my Dak for the next few years! Hmmmm. Great resale value in 3 years. Could upgrade to a new one then. ;-)

try pulling your #14 fuse in your box, this
eliminates the guages and mileage increase.
We have discussed this before. The computer
within the engine bay holds the true mileage,
regardless of what the odometer says.
Unfortunately this can only be proven in one
way. The dealer.

Here's the dilly:
Record your mileage, Pull fuse. Run around
on your truck for a few hundred miles, put your
fuse back in, blow it first. Go to the dealer and
explain that on your way home from a
business trip, you noticed the guages were
not working. You dont know when it happened
but the truck ran as normaland decided to get
home as it was very late and roadside
wouldnt find you for hours.
If the mileage is increased upon inspection
(they should find the fuse (play dumb)). Then
we know that the dealer really knows the
history of the carand reprogrammed it. If the
mileage stays the same, we have something
going here.
So I ask you this, who can we trust to send in?

Hrmm, you all must have unplugged the ethics cable too, hehe.

This is a form a fraud, for those of you who don't know already.

My question is, what in the world made you decide to try to turn your vehicle off when it was moving! (lol)

My brother had a F150 that the odometer jammed on him one day. He hit the little button to reset the trip odometer (to check mileage) and the silly (cheap Ford) thing just got stuck and stop turning over the miles. He drove it like that for awhile before a bump in the road wiggled it free.

And yes... it IS a serious crime to tamper with the odometer. Any time you buy or sell a car they make you sign a document claiming you never messed with it.

The dealer can tell but can only reset the PCM not the dash.

If you blow a fuse you aren't tampering with the odometer, however, the form asks if it is the true mileage. Let your concience (sp?) be your guide.

I agree with John, this might sound nice, but it is HIGHLY illegal and can get you in for some nice jail time if caught. Not worth the risk in my book, but hey, to each his own!
