Subject: Shocks from HELL!!!! IP: Logged
Message: Well yoday i got off early from work so I thought I would change my front shocks on my truck(95 Dak sport) that have been sittin around for a week.(did rears last week) So I get one of those shock tools ant try to use it to unscrew the top bolt. broke the head off the middle part thet comes up through the center. So i ended up just grinding the bolt off with an air powered grinder. When i go to install the new shock (Procomp 9000 ES) it doesn't fit up through the bottom it is too fat to fit . So out comes the dremel grinded it for 20 min so it would fit. got that side on . I go to the pasanger side and try to use the shock tool it is working fine half way off and it breaks!!! now I am getting frustrated. Out comes the air powered grinder again start grinding it off when all of a sudden after 3 weeks of sunny weather it starts pissing rain so now I sit in the house lookin at my disabled truck. Damn I need a garage!! ne1 wanna donate?

Message: Well I got the other side put in with some more grinding of bolts and yes i did get a little rained on as well. As far as I am concerned the shocks are great but my old shocks were totally done. After i took out the old shocks I compressed them and all kinds of fluid came out and the shocks didn't even rebound. i think they were the original shocks from new(95 dak 170,000 km)
the bright side is I did it myself adn feel good I didn't pay some dealer schmoe $200cdn to install plus i got the shocks for only $50cdn afte a little shopping around
all Canadians wanting pro-comps get em from North Shore Offroad in B.C. www.NSOR.com

Message: Had mine on for over a week now and I think they do a great job over stockers and you can't beat the price IMO for the quality you get.

So far so good for the pro comps

Message: Dakdar,
You sound quite satisfied with the ride. I have been considering buying Pro Comp 9000 ES for my old Dak..... Surprised to hear you had to grind...How much material did you have to remove from that lower arm with the dremel???

Message: I had to grind down about 1/8 inch all the way around so 1/4 inch larger diameter I still scraped up the outsides of the shocks a little I should have probably grinded a little more. The procomps are about 3/4 inch wider in diameter than the oems(in 95)
