Subject: what do you use for interior dash, etc IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering what you use to detail the interior surfaces of your DAK's... Ie the dash and center console/arm rest.
I refuse to use armorall and have been just wiping down the interior with a damp towel for the last year. I saw reference to the www.303products.com Aerospace protectant and that seemed like the right stuff to use.
I dont want it to be shiny, but it definitely needs something...
HELP !

Message: stick with the 303. Damp towel works good too but if you want UV protection against plasticizing then 303 or something like that would be ideal.

Message: I use all Zaino products.! I tried it once and will use nothing else.
www.zainobros.com
I order the products as I run low.
The interior cleaner works by squerting the liquid on to a damp sponge. After applying you wipe it with a towel. The more you apply the shinier it gets. Since you wipe with a wet sponge this cleans deeper. Not greasy or shiny unless you want it to be.
Also the Ultra high gloss spray is Awesome. Use this instead of washing. I wash only a couple times a year with water the rest I use the car duster and the spray, Unless of coures I go out muddin, then I have to pull it up on the lawn and give it a thorough washing.
I love Zaino products!

Message: I currently use low gloss Armor All. I have tried just about all of them and did not see any real difference. Armor All, 303, 3M, Lexhol all worked ok. I liked 3M vinyl cream the best but cost and availability were issues. The same goes for the others. I had to order all of them. I can get Armor All any place. Armor All does have UV protectents but alot of products have more. I tried 2001's product and it was too greasy. Dura Shine makes a good product also but it also cost alot more. My only complaint with Armor All is that it does not last long enough. What is wrong with Armor All?????

Message: I think the original post asked what do YOU use. So we posted what we use. Everyone has an opinion and what they thinks works better. No one down graded Armor All. If you like the way it works and protects use it. Know one said it sucked or anything just that it tends to dry out your dash. If you guys do not have this problem then use Armor All. That is all I used til I found something I thought was better for my needs. I never heard of the 303 stuff but I went to the site and checked it out and I may try it. I think the original post was a good question and got allot of good responses. Once again I have learned of a new product that I should try.
Take the info if you need it. If someone dogs your preffered product then back it up with a response of why you like it.
I agree that Armor All dries the dash, is greasey, to shiny. IMO it does not protect well either.

Post why you like the Armor All that is all the originator wanted to know.

Message: Wrong! Plastic can and will dry out, get hard, crack, etc, there are plastisizers in most plastics that will leach out after time, UV rays and heat will accelerate the leaching. If there are any bass fishermen out there platisizer leaching is the reason the rubber worms (soft PVC) melts the plastic hook boxes and other things in your tackle box. Woo that turned in to a long-winded more than you needed to know post.

Message: Armorall and like products contain silicone and flourocarbons that will prematurely dry out dashes and plastic parts.
All detailers that I have talked to at car shows have said that any products containing silicone are bad.

Message: Just an added note about the plasticizers. Also, you know that hazy film that accumulates on the inside of your window? Well that's from the plasticizers breaking down. Not only does this dry out your dash, it will eventually crack. You're right, Armor All may look decent and appear to be fine now, but later on you will see the effects. This not only applies to Armor All but to all silicone based products. But like "4x4" said, use what you like. We are just trying to help by explaining the cons of using silicone based products. We all love our Daks, and yours too and would hate to see it get ruined.
Abercrombie - you can buy 303 right from the manufacturer but you pay shipping. It's cheaper to find a place near you that carries it. Check their website. I think they list businesses that carry it in different areas. I get mine from a Truck Accessories Shop about 25 miles from my house. It's a good 35 minute ride but worth it.

Message: Most nationally advertised over the counter silicone oil based products do not usually contain UV protectants and the silicone oils may act as a magnifying glass, intensifying the UV degradation. Silicone oil may also dissolve the essential oils in the vinyl skin, hastening the premature formation of cracks in the vinyl skin. A quality cleaner/dressing product will contain a UV protectant and essential oils to replace lost oils from the vinyl. These protectants are very expensive, so the K-Mart specials may do more harm than good. Silicone oil also has a very strong electrostatic attraction which may be considered beneficial in that it will tend to stay where it is placed, but will also attract every dust particle in the surrounding three counties. Many nationally advertised Vinyl products also contain formaldehyde. As you can imagine, this is not particularly beneficial to the vinyl.

Message: fourgivn1, While you are right some country do that I just want to make sure that everyone is aware that Europeans do not do this. Germany for instance has strict purity laws for it's beer and the beer is still alive when they bottle it. Nothing but pure water, yeast, malts, hops, sugar and natrul spice can go into it. South East Asia and third world countrys tend to add formaldehyde to keep beer fresh in the abscence of refer.

But once it is gone no more. I have been using the Zaino since last October. I am gonna try the 303 stuff as well.

Message: I've been using 'Mothers Back-to-Black'. Works wonders. Works on all colors, all materials, doesn't leave a greasy film, a low gloss shine, doesn't seem to attract dust and doesn't film up the windows - and lasts! But I have no idea if it's a silicone based product or not :(
