Message: First off, let me let you all know that I understand how illegal and dangerous street racing is. Now that I took care of that, I have to tell you that tonight I went up against a late model Tacoma V6 with my 93 4x4 Dakota w/318ci. It wasnt off the line but I took none the less and it was my first win. I would like to know the proper way to rev an engine at the line to get the RPM's up. Right now I am just holding the brake pedal as hard as I can and giving it a little gas, but I can hear my brakes groaning and feel the truck want to move ahead. What follows after the light goes green? What RPM range should I have it in before we take off? Also, its an auto tranny(4sp-O/D).

(1) Turn OD off
(2) Rev engine to 1300-1500rpm (hold brake pedal and gear selector in DRIVE)
(3) Light turns gree, let go of brake and mash gas pedal to floor.
I don't condone stree racing...but I am guilty of a few "challenges". ;)

Message: Thanks a ton, Bernd! Oh yeah, what about my breaks making all that groaning and grinding sound when I give it a little gas? Is that as bad for them as it sounds?

Message: Hey Bernd, when I am racing and I mash the pedal to the floor, doesnt that do terrible things to your motor, driveline, etc.? What will usually be one of the first things to break when you race someone and hammer that gas pedal?

LOL...totally correct Ron. (But there are exceptions.) ;)
Andrew, the "creaking" noise is the starting point/sound from your tires trying to move. Take is a little bit below that point and (on thye average) that's your "launch" point.
Racing, no matter what anyone else tries to tell you, is always going to put more stress on the engine and driveline. There's no way around that. Be careful, be safe, and have fun.

Message: The creaking noise is the brakes. The engine is starting to overpower them and it makes a creaking noise. Just keap the rpms at a 1300 then mash them. The first thing to go will be your pride if you dont do it right. But your driving a dodge not a chev you don't have to worry about killing everything HAHAHA
See ya
