Subject: Dodge is a pain!!! IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 4.7 QC. I hope none of you ever have to go what I went through this past weekend. I was driving to Baton Rouge from Houston. Stopped in Vidor for some go go juice and my truck won't start. I get it jumped off and continue on my way. I get to BR and go straight to the auto parts store and get them to test my battery and alternator. Well the guy tells me that the alternator is charging really low and it will probably have to be replaced. (no Prob its under warranty right) Well out of the 3 dealer ships that were open none had the part even if the parts department was open. One these extremly gifted A$$clowns asked me "which alternator do you have the 114 or the 134?" So I asked him the same question. He told me "niether". I then asked why would you bother asking me about a part that you don't even have? Believe it or not that stummped him so I hung up. I then called all auto parts stores in and around Baton Rouge only to find that none of them had that part either. Not only do they not have it they can't even get it. Why? Because who ever makes that alternator hasn't released the rights to the after market parts companies. So guess where the only place you can get one IS?? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Message: It is common for a new design to be kept propritary for 3-5 years before it is released to after market. This is nothing new ! You are probably just used to owning vechiles that have been useing the same alternator case design since 1970's or 80's. You will probably not be able to find much of anything for it until the 3 year warranty is up.

Message: Something you guy's might want to take into consideration, Most of the newer Daks have a "Battery Temp Sensor" and the PCM regulates the charging circuit from the signal from that sensor. ie: warmer Battery less charge cooler Battery more charge.

Message: Is there any source that lists a complete sensor rundown for Dakotas, new or old, so we might be able to halfway know which fouled up sensor is making our trucks run like ca-ca? There's sensors in this thing that I had absolutely no clue even existed. There's probably a "paint color" sensor, or a "window transparency" sensor. Give me a break!

The Fart Sensor in the seat will automatically roll down the window if the stench is to great.
Really I know what you mean about these sensors
Shot me an email and I'll send you a scanned page from a Haynes repair manual it lists 33 sensors & actuators that the PCM monitors.
