Subject: how can i lower the rear of my gen2 4x4? IP: Logged
Message: Hey, i want to even out my dak, my front is a lot lower than my rear, and i don't want to raise the front with the torsion bars. The problem is that the 4x4 rear end is the opposite of the 4x2... the leafs are on top of the axle and the hangers and shackels are all opposite of the 4x2...people have tld me to try removing the smalled leaf, but i've heard that gives a bad ride. (how do i remove a leaf anyways?, can i do it myself or should i go to a shop). Also i've been told to get full size chevy shackles and they will work... i need help, i just put on a roll pan and it looks like my trucks ass is way on the air.... any help is appreaciated..... i'd like to get it about the height of a 4x2...
PS.... i don't wanna hear about how you don't agree with me lowering a 4x4, cuz i've heard it all before and could really give a crap if you think i'm wrong...

Message: I had a friend when I was in the military that did just what you're thinking about. He had an older Jeep Wagoneer with leaf springs all around. Went down to the local spring shop and had one leaf removed all around. This dropped the truck about 1". He saved a lot of money by taking them off himself and taking them to the shop. For about $200.00 total, they removed one leaf each, replaced the bushings with polyurethane and painted them. Looked like new springs. Turnaround was 3 days as it's a busy shop. The ride was a little mushier but that was fixed by a better set of shocks. The most important thing is that with one leaf missing the brackets/holders that wrap around the springs were too big. To prevent any possible shifting/spring wrap the shop replaced them with new ones of the proper size. If anyone else has any insight the shackles might be a lot cheaper option, especially if you get them from the boneyard. If you have a good shop around and you can afford the cost and down time removing a leaf might be a good option too. Good luck. Jim
