Message: the gauges dont light up when i turn my headlights on, making it difficult to drive at night. i found the fuse had blown and replaced it which then blew right when i turned my headlights on. its only suppose to be a 5 amp fuse and blew all the way up to a 15 which i placed in there. i even tried a 25 which didnt blow but the gauges still dont work. has anyone had this happen? what do i do? should i take it back to the dealership because its still under warranty

If, you have not installed any aftermarket gauge dials or pillar gauges or messed with the wiring in general, and it is under warranty, YES take it to the dealer. Never put an over-sized fuse in. Take the 25 amp fuse out before going to the dealer.
I'd bet a steak dinner that there is a short in the switch or in the wiring connecting the switch, power and panel lights.
If the dealer gives you a hard time, remember, they are there to serve you the customer. Besides, the engineers did not design it to work that way, so something is wrong.
I have a 1999 Dakota. Never once have I blown a fuse.

Message: Larry is right, don't ever substitute a blown fuse with one of a higher current rating. That's a good way to turn your Dak into a piece of toast...literally. Speaking of which, I watched my neighbor's early 90's Ford Explorer burn up in his driveway last Saturday night...just sitting there, and it bursts into flames. Totally burnt it out before the FD arrived.

Message: all ive installed were aftermarket fog lights but i doubt that would affect the gauge lights

Message: It is hard to know for sure if the fog light installation had an affect or not without examining it first. However, depending on the installation, I would not rule it out at this point.
Regardless, you have a dead short somehwere in that circuit. It needs to be found and fixed.
I am concerned also that you mentioned the instruments do not work either. If that is true the short circuit could have caused damage to the electronics in the instrument cluster.
Let us know how it goes.
