I have a 2002 Quad Cab SLT Plus, 4.7, with 265x70x16 tires. I was checking the tire preasure after about 2 months of use. It is currently at 39psi. The preasure guide that comes with all the trucks paper works says 30psi for the tires. I mainly do alot of highway/backroad driving (very little off road). I was wondering what preasures other people are running.

When in doubt, look at the tire...someone on the outer wall will tell you what the tire pressure should be...not enough and too much causee uneven wear patterns not to mention can reduce gas milage by about 2 miles to the gallon.

The pressure on the side wall just tells you what the max is, not what it should be. In the door jam and the owners manual or in the glove box of some will have the recommended tire pressure. It will have a standard cold pressure and a high speed cold pressure in the owners Manual.

Hey Lynn, know what I find funny? The SXT model comes with the tire/handling package and thus the 16x8 wheels. In the door jamb however, it gives tire pressure specs for the standard 15 inch wheel/tire combo. What was DC thinking? You would figure they would know better and put the specs for the proper tire/wheel size. Attention to detail........

I've got the 16 x 8 Goodyear Eagles. I went straight to a Goodyear dealer and he said to run them at 35 psi all around.

Yes the information in the manual and the door are for 15" wheels. You would think DC would put the correct information for the correct package at least on the door. I think I will take the Goodyear dealers word and lower my preasure to 35psi.

Thanks

There is a clear warning in my owners manual about running on the highway with truck tires. It says to add 10PSI to the listing on the door jamb. (but not go over the tire sidewall rating)

This is because the multi-ply truck tires generate a lot of internal heat when run over 60 MPH for hours at a time when not fully inflated.

I run mine at 40PSI all the time. The ride is a bit bumpier but the tires seem to like it better.

Bruce is correct if you have light truck tires. ie- 31.5x10.5 LT. Once Dodge went to 16" rims they went back to passenger tires ie- P255/65 r16. The passenger tires do not need to be increased. I chose to do so because of personal preference.
