Message: Man, I read a ton of messages from a bunch of you guys asking a lot of basic questions on the maintenance and/or repair of your Dakota's. One of the best investments you can make after buying a new or used Dakota, is to order a shop manual from your local Dodge dealer. I had mine a week after I took delivery. It was 90 bucks. That's about 1/2 of one percent of the cost of the truck! Believe me... you will not regret it!

Message: I bought a Haynes Repair Guide a few days after I got my truck. It's very informative and worth the 15 bucks if you can't swing the price for the dealer manual.

Message: Ok guys.. I have a question for either of you. Get that manual handy.
Where is the DRL (daytime running light) module located on a 2000 4.7?????????
Maybe if you can tell me that I would invest in the dealer manual... the haynes I found very helpful for my 90 Mazda b2200.. but, there were no message boards.. at least here, you can also get tips about what to do/not to do (problems that others have ran into)

Message: Whenever I get a new Dodge I ALWAYS have the dealer throw a service manual in with the deal.

Message: Dimarini, I was told about that too late, but I guess it's damn true. When I brought my truck home, my dad asked me where mine was and I was like "huh?" He said every vehicle he has ever owned he askes for a shop manual and they just throw it right in as part of the deal. I guess other people, now that I've asked, do that too.

Message: Thought so .. I would be north of the border.. and it's standard .. and they don't make canada only manuals.. hehe
I want to disable the DRL's w/o a) parking brake light partially on, or b) losing my reverse lights.
I have no probs running w/o the highbeams and then plugging the module back in at night to use the highs.. but I can't find anyone/manual with this location... ok.. I'll continue to pout.

I just thought of that after I posted the message..
Aren't your headlights required to be on though; I remember the signs when I went to Edmonton.
It might be in there, but I have never looked. There are still parts of that manual I have not yet explored.

Message: Actually, that I am not totally sure on.. I know they need to be operable for a certification/safety.
I don't think they really crack down on it after that though. I do understand the safety feature that it provides.. but I think having headlight covers on and drl's peeking through during the day looks somewhat retarded.. just my opinion.. hehe
They are more prone to give you a ticket for the covers(while on at night) than the drl's .. and the covers I would remove at night anyway.

Message: I've got a 2000 with the stupid Daytime running lights. What I've done on previous vehicles and will be doing on this one, is installing a on/off switch for the DRLs. If you follow the back of the e-brake bracket to the very top, you will see a one-wire(wht/blk) connector(black). Unplug it, if you leave it unplugged DRLs will stay on all the time, so you will need a 'SPST' on/off switch. Tap onto the wire and connect to one of the terminals on the switch, connect the other terminal of the switch to a good ground (chassis - not onother wire), mount your switch and your done! In one direction your DRLs will operate as normal and in the other direction they will remain off.

Message: a 'SPST' switch is a single pole, single throw switch. Just like a light switch, your controlling a single circut with a flip of the switch (up and down position). Your best source would probably be Radio Shack.

Message: I agree with getting a shop manual. It's a must. Haynes are great for the simpler tasks or handy for a quick reference/jog your memory, but it still can't beat a shop manual, worth the bucks!
