 Subject: Rental Dakota--hood stuck?

Hey all, I got a 2001 Dakota 4-dr as a rental today (my Crown Victoria is in the shop for electrical b.s.) and I wanted to check out the engine compartment--curious car guy what can I say.
However, I can't get the bleepin' hood open. I've pulled the latch under the IP as far as it goes, and nothing happens. Shouldn't the hood pop up a little when you pull the handle? Then go around front and hit the safety latch??
At this point I don't even care if I see the engine, I just want to prove to myself that I'm not this stooooopid!!! :)

some rental companies move the latch to another location. they know where it is, you dont. helps keep people outta the hood that might swap good parts for bad.

Yes, when you pull the hood latch (labeled hood)under the steering wheel it will pop up. You may be pulling the emergency brake release, which is next to the hood release. Does it have a v8?

I thought the rental place might have locked the latch... but they didn't lock the latch on the S10 I rented two months ago. ???
Since I can't see under the hood, I can only assume from the sweet exhaust note and smooth power that it is the 4.7L V8. Kinda surprising to get that from an Enterprise rental place!

BTW, it is definitely the hood latch I am pulling. :) I even set and released the parking brake to make sure. :)

Well the S10 sucks thats why it had no hood lock, but Im not sure on your case, I rented one one time and the hood wasnt locked at all, But damn that is a good idea for a rental car co. to do that.
