Subject: Auto or Manual? IP: Logged
Message: I want a quick truck, but I am also looking for least amount of effort. How long do the autos last for and how is their performance?

Message: You might have answered your own question. "Least amount of effort". There isn't much effort putting a shifter into "D". If you take care of your auto (fluid and filter changes, band adjustments, etc.) it should last as long as anything else. Personally I went with a 5 spd for the sheer joy of shifting for myself, in addition to the a manual draining less power from the engine. Hopefully my only repairs would be a clutch replacement. Good luck with your choice.

Message: I prefer the 5-speed, you can read-line every gear and accelerate faster.
God I wish my truck was 5-speed!

Message: Manuals are fun, I mean, I have one, but:
"want a quick truck, but I am also looking for least amount of effort"
That would be the Dakota R/T!
