Subject: Loss of power on steep grades??? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Quad Cab 4x4 with a 4.7, auto trans and 3.55 rear. It has about 45000 miles on it now.
I live in Virginia and it's pretty mountainous here and there are alot of steep grades that you encounter while driving. Before my truck used to go up them no prob not even hardly change gears or anything and I could pull them at 55 to 60 easy without even having to lockout overdrive.
Lately I have noticed that when I go up a steep long grade it bogs down and won't pull very well and will only go at 45 to 50 unless you tromp the hell out of it and it revs to about 4500 to 5000 rpms and pulls like hell until it gears up again.
It kinda feels like that its in a higher gear and won't gear down for some reason and even if I lock out overdrive it doesn't seem to make any difference. I had a tune up and trans service done at my dealer a couple of weeks ago and I wouldn't think that after that it should be acting up but I don't know. Does any body have any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
I've not noticed any sulfer smells or anything either so I really don't have a clue as to what it might be.If my trans is ready to spew its guts it could be time to go get a new truck before it happens and I'm stuck with a POS.
