Subject: 4.7L cooling fan keeps running IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 4.7L 5 speed that the electric cooling won't shut off. It got around 100 today, and when I got home the fan was still running after shuting the moter off. I figured no big deal, until I checked it 3 hours later, It was still going. I pulled the ground cable and thats where I'm at right now. Ya got any ideas for me? Thanks, Larry

Message: What year do you have?
I know in my 2002 CC if you leave the fan on all the time. the aux fan stay's on or come's on/off all the time.
I would turn off your A/C and everything thing else and see if it still does it.

Message: Hi Dakotaman I've got a 2000 CC. Never had this happen befor in the 3 years I've had it. If I don' disconect the battery, It will run the fan until it goes dead. I think a sensor has went bad, but I don't know for sure.

Message: The temp sensor/switch for the fan is probably bad/stuck. I'd like to think when you turn the key it would override it though, maybe not.

Message: I wasn't too worried when it was running after shuting off the engine, figured that was normal for such a hot day, but after a while I kinda figured something was wrong.

Message: What was the final outcome of your electric fan issue? My 'oo 4.7 is doing the same thing lately. What I found is that if I have the AC or the defrost (which uses the AC I believe) the fan will stay on until the battery is dead. On the way to work lately I have to use the defrost for a bit. As long as I turn it off for a while before I get to work, it seems to be fine.

Message: Same thing happened to me last year. The AC relay was stuck (melted the plastic underneath it too) As soon as I touched it, it turned off. Relay was red hot though, received a nice little finger burn. I switched it with my fog light relay. The relays are located under the hood. 2000 4.7

Message: Probably the fan relay stuck.
I rewired mine with an external 40amp. relay.
The ones they put in are to small.

Message: You can order 40 amp plug in relays from Parts Express. The shipping is a little steep for a single one (it's probably still cheaper than the dealer). Order a few spares or look at some of their other things...

Message: recently my check gage light came on and the temp
was really high. I have very seldom heard my
electric fan come on. but now it runs from the time
i start the truck to when i shut it down. I have a
2004 dakota 4wd that has belt driven fan and
electric fan. I understand that there are 2
thermostats for my truck. One regular thermostat
(that i am not sure where it is) and an electric
thermostat for the fan. could one of these be my
problem ?

Message: My 00 Dakota 4.7 Electric cooling fan will not
shut off. I have changed the temp sensor. Hell,
you can unplug the sensor and the relay and the
fan keeps going. Happened once before and I
replaced the relay. That seemed to fix it then,
but now it runs constantly. I just unplug it
when I park to save the battery. It does it
with the A/C on or off. It does it cold or hot.
Something has failed, but I cant find a diagram
that gives me any clue as to what it could be.
I can't afford The Dodge dealers labor rates.
Im considering hooking it up with ignition
power and just letting run when I switch the
engine on. Unless....someone out there knows
what the deal is.
