Message:
I ran my truck tonight and got 12 seconds 0-60 mph. Its a '97 2.5L 5 Speed with only the IAT mod and TPS mod.

This seem about right? Very crude way of measuring (friend with a stop watch) but I figure it has to be fairly close.

Anyone else with the 4 banger?

well... dave (2.5) on this board hits 60 mph in the 1/8th and he does it in 11.79 seconds so that seems right

Yeah I do my 1/8 at the time in my sig. 0-60 was right at 12 the way it used to be when I ran that run. Should be a little faster under those same conditions after the mods.

Once again, that seems right.

Yeah so my driving isnt too bad if im at or around 12 seconds for the 2.5L I suppose, I have a 180 degree stat im going to put in, and as for other mods maybe a muffler and thats about it.

How does the flowmaster sound on your 2.5L ?

Thanks for any help.

When I had the stock cat it sounded horrible to me. Not loud enough and not the right sound. So I took off the muffler, which is how the 11.79 run was done. No mods, just removed muffler.
But a week ago or so my cat went out and clogged so I gutted it. Now my Flow sounds great! Either get a high-flow unit or gut yours and you'll like it.

I know this doesn't count but one of my friends got a 9.30@74mph in the 1/8 out of a '94 RC 2.5/5 speed/8 1/4 3.92 sure grip. He was getting it ready to swap in a 360/727 , he already had the rear done , it had Cal-Tracks and 26x10.5 slicks on it. We were hanging out at his house one night and decided to cobble together a nitrous system for it and chopped off the exhaust before the cat, we brought it out on a roll back because we knew it was not going to get home on it's own. On the motor it ran a 12.10@50 something , 50hp shot it went 11.00's@63 , 100hp it went 10.20's@68 , 200hp shot it went a 9.30@74 and burned 2 plugs , tried fresh plugs and another run and it puked the head gasket about 80-100' out of the hole.

With the 360 in it runs 8.30's@86-87mph on the motor and 7.60's@92-93 on a 100hp shot.

I think you've got the guts, Greg. You just don't have the extra motor to pop in.

Obviously you bought that truck for utility and economy. I wouldn't waste my time and money on modifying it. Be happy with the gas mileage and the ample "trunk" space. You could always trade it in for a 4.7L 5spd. I have heard those are pretty fast...

good point, can't beet much with it.I know cause I got a 98 with the same drv. train.Though I did mod mine too but not for racing, for economy and shear bordom.personally I would be embarassed to bring it to the track, but im sure it wold proly do about the same as ur 2.5 18-20 sec in the 1/4,thats pretty dang sorry.theres only one prob w/ this motor, it's a push rod 4 banger can't do much to it and expect it to hold together too long.I suspect in the neer future you'll be putin new lifters in and re-springin yur vlv's. with reving like that. no offence just my $.o2
