Subject: Seatbelts won't unlatch! IP: Logged
Message: Both front seatbelts in my '00 QC no longer unlatch easily. When you push in the red buttons, nothing happens. Have to jiggle the belts while holding the button in. Has progressively worsened. Before I complain to the dealer, just wanted to check if anyone else is having the same problem. There is no corrosion or burrs - can't see anything in the mechanism to cause this.

Message: My 99 CC passenger seatbelt was doing that. I shot some WD-40 in and it has since been fine. Just a little will do, don't want it leaking out and staining the seat.

A judge granted nationwide class-action status to a lawsuit against DaimlerChrysler AG on behalf of owners of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles that have a so-called Gen 3 type of seat belt buckle.
The lawsuit first filed in 2000 seeks replacement of Gen 3 belt buckles on about 14 million Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles made since 1993.
...the Gen 3 buckle is prone to unlatching during accidents or from around child or infant car seats in sharp turns or sudden stops.

Message: Following site seems to imply that Dakotas and Durangos were first to switch to the Gen 4 seatbelts wich do not have the accidental unlatching problem. But it doesn't say when this change occured. My guess is the 2000 and newer Dakotas actually have the Gen 4 seatbelt and it is the one with the can't unlatch problem. Can anybody verify?

Message: OK. The main page at http://www.unsafebelts.com/ actually gives pictures of the various seatbelt buckles and my 2000 QC definitely has the Gen 4 buckles which are not part of the class action suit. Of course, there will probably be a recall in a tear or two for the difficulty in unlatching them...

Message: Gen 5 seatbelts won't have a latch at all. You have to crawl into them and out of them, but will be made of fruit roll up, in case of an accident.
Gen 6 seatbelts will be larger and used in vans and suv's and other vehicles in which overweight passengers feel more comfortable in. But will be made out of sugar free fruit roll ups. Also fits most diabetics and hyperactive those super sensitive to glucose.
There will be no Gen 7 seatbelts, the whole car will be made out of nerf material.
There will, however, be Gen 8 seatbelts. These will be the straps that hold you into your Virtual Reality Dodge.
ok ok ok, My girlfriend is looking at me like she is trying to figure out some way she can have me get in a wreck and die, and then sue and make lots of money because my seatbelt didn't unlatch and I was horribly burned to death and that caused her traumatic stress and she needs lots of money to cope...
