Subject: Knocking in the steering IP: Logged
Message: About 2 months ago, I replaced the 2 ball joints and the tierod on the conducting side because I felt a vibration in the steering wheel.
It has 40 000 miles. Is this normal to replace joints with this millage?
1 month after, the problem returns. I went to the garage,
and everything seems ok but when I drive on bad road at low speed, I feel that something is shaking in the steering. It seems to come from the driver side. I can hear a shaking noise when the window open. What could it be? Ball joints and tierod are new!

Message: I've been changing (preventative) frontend parts also. "98 120,000 miles. Mine still has the noise...me thinks it's inside the steering gear.

Message: This may sound silly but my '01 does the same thing. I found that the problem with mine was the calipers. Take off the wheel and unbolt the caliper from the knuckle. You'll see where the caliper makes contact with the knuckle, take and clean these contact points and apply some high temp. lube or graphite to these spots. Seems to take care of my clunking noise for a couple months. Hope this helps.

Message: Do a search on the website and you'll find a lot of people with the same problem. I could be many different things, I have the same problem. Most problems consist of ball joints, steering rack, caliper contact and bolts that need to be retorqued.
