I've got a new V6 with only 150 miles on it, and I've been wondering if I should start with synthetic. This looks like a convincing case, but then there's the guy at the bottom of the page who says he had another type of experience with synthetic...who do you believe?

I was told to run reg oil for the first 6000 miles to seat the rings.

Well you will not hurt the truck in any way by useing non-synthetic the first 6000 miles. With that said I will also say that most of us on this board have been useing synthetic for quite some time. I have always changed to synthetics between 600 and 1500 miles on a new engine and have never had a problem! I have done this with all of my customers cars and my family's cars and trucks as well. I will also add that Corvette, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus all of GM's new trucks come filled with synthetic right from the factory. You would think that if it was bad for the engine to have synthetic for break in that these companys would leave it out .If you decide to use synthetic consider Amsoil I bought some the other day to replace the Mobile 1 I had been useing. It is only 75 cents more then Mobile 1 and has a minium drain time of double mobile 1 and in some cases 4 times as long. I have been useing Mobile 1 since 1988 or so and have had great results with it as well.

There is just to much proof that synthetics outperform petroleum oil to even justify having a debate about it.
Today's cars and trucks are running much leaner and hotter than your Grandma's Plymouth Valiant and your Grandpa's D-100 and they need an oil that can withstand the temps and higher horsepower per cubic inch that todays cars and trucks can deliver.

P.S.
I have a friend who is a Master ASE mechanic and I heard him tell a customer a couple of years ago to get used to Synthetic oils because whether he liked it or not he would be using them one day.
