Subject: what parts do I need to replace clutch? IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone,
I have a '97 Dakota 4 cylinder 5 speed and the clutch is worn- it doesnt slip- but I let the pedal out almost all the way before it engauges.
Anyway to adjust this?
Im assuming I need a new clutch, so what parts do I need to get? Im assuming since there has been no slippage I can get away without replacing a lot of parts.
Throw out bearing, and since it wasnt a slipping clutch what other parts do I need?
Ball park figures on price would be awesome too.
Thanks for any help.

Message: I am not sure if this will work on the dakota, but you might try adjusting the clutch cable first. it might have stretched a little.

Message: No, you don't/can't adjust a hydraulic clutch. It adjust itself...As for replacing the clutch, you can't get a away with just replacing a few parts. A clutch replace is a major job and if your gonna do it/have it done, might as well as get everything replaced. Clutches range from 200-600 bucks, throw out bearing are like 8 bucks. Since you have a 4 cyl, most like it will be in the lower price range. Also, I would drive it til it starts to slip, my clutch has engaged at the end for over 1.5 years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Message: As Tripper said, it's a major job, so you should replace the pressure plate, throwout bearing, and get the flywheel surfaced. Consider that these parts have the same miles as the clutch disc.
