First of all this is my neighbors Dakota, its a 97 with trailer towing package. He wanted to tow a small trailer that has 4plug wiring. The truck has 7. He bought an adapter 7 to 4 but theres no power at the plug except for the RED wire {Battery}. No brake lights or turn siginals. We've checked the fuses, there OK,We've got to be missing something. Any help appreciated.

There is a relay that needs to be installed in the engine compartment fuse/relay box. The relay should have come with the truck when purchased if it was equipped with the towing package, however for some reason they don't install it. The relay should be in the package with the adapter(usually found in the jack storage area or glove box). I had this same issue when I bought my truck new in 97....Hope this helps....good luck.
