Subject: Transmission Slips in 4th and OD IP: Logged
Message: Hi, anyone experienced this? After engine and trans have fully warmed up, upon shifting into 4th, (auto trans), vehicle seems to shudder/vibrate like its not really staying in 4th, subsequently gets a little worse when it drops into OD (most noticeable between 50 and 60 mph) Tach is stable during these events. Lacks power climbing hills, always forces a downshift out of OD, then out of 4th into 3rd, which makes it take off like a rocket. Shifts up to 4th are fine. I don't know what is causing this, the Dodge dealer says this is normal. I don't think so. If anyone has any guidance, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Message: I don't have a lot of experience with Dodge automatics yet, and I don't know if this is the case with your truck, but I've heard a lot of people on this site talk about the governor pressure solenoid and transducer causing a problem similar to what you describe. Apparently it has something to do with low line pressure. Replace the solenoid and transducer and it usually corrects the problem.
I've also seen several people who've posted about their dealers telling them that this type of situation was "normal"...which I TOTALLY don't buy. How could something as disruptive as this be normal? What engineer worth his salt would knowingly design a piece of crap that "normally" acted like this? What company would risk their reputation by marketing a piece of junk that "normally" did this? If it's "normal", then why don't they act like this when we test drive them brand new? Do they think that we're all idiots, and can't tell the difference? Give me a freakin' break! OK, next in line on the soapbox...

Message: I have a 97' slt x-cab 4x4 auto-trans, that does the exact f'n thing. I changed my trans fluid and filter but it will still hang up on the gears. I did get an extra 30 mi. to the tank after the fluid and filter change though. Any help on this would be great. I have 75k mi. I first noticed @ 70k

Message: Thanks for the replies. I did the same thing
with the fluid and filter flush/drain stuff hoping
for the best, but alas, same old thing. I will
investigate the solenoid and tranducer thing. I
hope that we can all share what it takes to fix
this problem, cause it is really ticking me off. I
figured I was not the only one to be
experiencing this. I will certainly pass on what
I know.
