Subject: Installing those Westin nerf bars... IP: Logged
Message: Just got done installing those nerf bars in 88 degree heat, 80% humidity. I got a 2000 SLT dak 4.7 and I'm attempting to install these things with no help. Well, I take the body mount bolt out along with the rubber bumper. I then try to put the nerf bar up to the body, putting the rubber bumper behind it and then screw it into the frame. I got at this for about 45 mins, trying to fanagle this big ass extended cab bar with sweat dripping all over the place then FIGURE OUT that the bumper goes between the nerf bar and the frame and you bolt in on like that. I gave myself one of those bitch slaps to the forehead for being so stupid. I thought I was going to be there all night when all you guys were saying how easy they were. I was like, "yeah, right". I put them on after that in about 15 mins, and torqued them to specs. GOT A QUESTION: I didn't use the stabilizer bar that goes in the middle but I don't think I need it. Whats you opinion of putting those on? It looks better without it. and how close are your Westin's without them, because mine aren't right up against the body or anything???

Message: When I installed my Westin nerf bars I went through the same sh*t. I ended up mounting the bars directly to the frame and then the bumper underneath. Didn't realize that I had installed them wrong until I went to have my shocks inspected because I kept hearing a creaking sound every time I hit a bump or took a corner. It turned out that it was the metal on metal from installing the nerf bars incorrectly causing the creaking sound, not my shocks. I felt like such a moron. (still do!) But anyways, I did attach the stabilizer bar and unless you are looking for it, you don't even notice it. My bars aren't right up against the body either. Hell, I don't even use them except to stand on to dry my roof after washing her. But I do like the way they look.
