Subject: I finally did it. IP: Logged
Message: I test drove a 4.7 V8 4x4 CC today. great compared to my truck, however it wouldn't be enough for me and to tell you guys the truth mine almost seems more potent off the line. Upper level is a different story however. But still not that fast. I might be able to get one if I sold it, but I wouldn't go for a V8 4.7. The thing drove effortlessly in comparison but it didn't throw me back in my seat. I realized how much I hate my exhaust though. Nice and quiet. smooth too. Not fast enough!!! I' hate to say it but I'm not cut out for trucks...I want a car...I think. ok people...do your worst.

Message: Do like I did. Kept my 4.7 4x4 and went out and got a Stang GT to sit next to it. Best of both worlds:)

Message: I've had my 2002 4.7(auto) CC for a couple weeks now, and I've learned that it is a little deceptive in its power.
It doesn't really seem to be doing a lot, but before you know it you're flying! :-)
I'm more used to good old fashioned shove you in the back and hold on the "Oh $h!t bar" low-end torque myself (having always been a fan of Pontiacs which are major low-end torque monsters)... so at first I kind of thought it seemed soft. But now I've learned that it's not really. It actually gets up and goes quite quickly... it's a lot like my wife's 2000 Toyota Celica GTS. That Celica makes all its power in the upper RPM range and doesn't really seem like it's going very fast... that is until you look down at the speedo and realize you're really moving after all!
Remember, torque is what you feel (you can't feel horsepower... hp is just a calculated number derived from torque) and it's often that feeling of torque shoving us in the back that makes us think that we're really moving... but if the torque comes on more subtley it doesn't necessarily mean that you're not still gathering speed rapidly.
Just yesterday I was driving home from work on the freeway and got behind a "slow mover"... when I changed lanes to go around him I realized that the car that was a ways back in the new lane was actually moving much faster than I'd first thought, and was catching me quickly... so I nailed it at about 60 and it just flat took off... reved up to 5000 rpm and flat left that approaching car in the dust.
I was like, "Wow... this thing really does move... it's just subtle." I hadn't really realized it until I had a relative comparison to make (i.e. that quicly approaching car.)
Off the line does suffer a little in feel... but look at the torque curve of the 4.7 and you'll see why. All it's torque comes on at 3000 RPM... but once you hit that mark... look out! :-)
To me it's kind of a fun change from my other car (a 1979 400/4spd Trans Am that is a real low-end torque monster!) :-)

Message: its funny you say that because when i first started driving my new GT I didnt really think it was so "quick" then i started looking down at the speedo and wow...im doing 70 already:) Cars can be deceptive. Driving the dak and the stang actually feel quite similar from a dead stop, but as we know if I line em up and go the stang will be out front quickly.
I am very impressed with the 4.7 and dont ti\hink it sucks at all!

Message: yeah from what I felt in the short time I was in it that seems to be a very acurate description. actually my V6 almost seems to pull harder off the line(not really, but it makes a bigger deal about it with intake and exhaust). The V6 is much more jerky. The 4.7 seemed to just like start out a bit slow and then just build power. my brother told me afterwards that I had hit like 65(on a small street)and I didn't even realize it. It felt like it was just getting ready to take off. Too bad i couldn't go further. Really quiet too. My truck (before it had exhaust even)made more noise. Oh well. I guess I'm stuck with my V6 for the next few years. I think the one I drove might have had 3.55 gears, mine has 3.92 that might explain why it was smoother. I know 4.7 has a better tranny too. I think IF I even get another dak, BIG IF, I'll go with a Loaded Leather QC 2x4 4.7. Unless they put a hemi in it then maybe 4x4 or R/T...I don't really know.
btw was in a Chevy 2500 HD 6.0 V8 not that inpressed, powerful though.

"Kenne Bell Optimizer II, Intense Performance Z-tube w/7" S&B front flap pulled, 3" Y-pipe back w/cat removed Flowmaster 50 Series w/single out infront of RR tire, Bell Tech 2"x4" drop, Saddleman Tonneau Cover, Robert Shaw 180 t-stat, Auto Lite 3923's. "
just a couple mods there. is that all you needed to beat a car with a smaller engine that weighs almost the same amount? so i guess ur 0-60 is like 4.9 seconds right? cause that is what u would need to "destroy" a mustang GT.
right
what did you run in the 1/8???
