Subject: Upper control arm bushings IP: Logged
Message: I was told by the dealer that the bushings are coming out of the right front upper control arm on my 99 2wd Dakota, but that I cannot simply replace the bushings due to the fact that the bushings cannot be bought individually. Instead I need to replace the entire set up. My question here is...is this guy for real or am I being screwed because I'm female?

Message: You are and you aren't. You CAN replace just the bushings... the Mopar PN is 52037673. I think the TSB# is 02-006-00. Most dealers when they check on it, their books say the whole damn thing has to be replaced, and it isn't cheap. I had some friends that just got the part itself and replaced only it, but a special tool is required. So you might have no choice but to change the whole thing.
Does it make your truck pull to the right? Mine used to have this problem, but for some reason it fixed itself! It drives perfect now! I won't complain I guess!! Common issue with the Dakota though.

Message: Thanks! I was hoping there was a less costly alternative, in the past six months I've had to replace the idle air control 3 times , the rear speed sensor and it goes in Monday to have the catalytic converter replaced (thank god that one is a freebie!)My truck spends more time in the shop than it does in my garage.
It does pull to the right a little but it has gotten better than it was before. It also makes a rapid ticking noise on the right front side when I have to stop suddenly, which seems to happen alot in Austin traffic.
Thanks again for your input.

Message: Mine goes in the shop Monday for driver's side upper A-arm bushings, (covered under extended warranty). As far as I know, they are replacing both top bushings only at an alignment shop in WI. Est. $140 including realignment.

Message: I agree with Kevster. You can get the Energy Suspension poly bushing kit for both upper and lower control arms for $45. The only problem is the cost of install. I called around a few places and surprisingly, the dealer quoted me the lowest price for install of $360 for both side upper and lower. I ended up doing it myself. Took about 8 hours total, but I had the right tools. A regular hydralic press won't work.

Message: Ya the dealer here had the lowest price also, because all the non-dealer shops put it under custom work and assumed it would take much longer then it actually does. The dealer quoted me $500 (Canadian $$) which isn't too bad. The reason I wouldn't go with a non-Dodge part is because it might void warranties if anyone has some left.
