Subject: 100 MPH slow down? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota SLT. I was recenlty racing and i hit 100 mph and the truck slowed down! soon as i hit 100 it seemed like the trans or soemthing else went out but when i slowed down to 80 it seemed fine. Is there some sort of regulator on it? if so how can i remove it so i can top it out?

Message: I've heard that if you hold the key in the "Start" position for like 15 seconds or so while your driving that it will disable the speedometer only and you'll be able to get by the limiter. I haven't tried it, I think I may have seen it on speedtweaks.net or somewhere.

Message: but wouldnt holding the key in the start position play a little number on your starter gear and flywheel teeth while you are already "started"?
big price to pay to go past a 100mph

I don't know if it's only on the auto's, but I tried holding mine down while in drive in my driveway and it didn't kick the starter at all...

Message: With the manuals, the starter won't engage unless the clutch is in. So that trick would work good provided that you don't shift while doing it (though you could pull 150MPH in 4th w/ a 4.7+5 Speed+3.55))

Message: Hit an oak or hickory, not a pine. The wood on a pine isn't hard enough to do the proper job.

Message: The key trick works your starter is disabled and you lose all instrument power but you can go well past a hundred.

Message: so your saying a non modified dakota can't go past 100 mph ??? if so what the hell is the point i know its a truck not a sports car..but some people drive them like they are..I would of thought the govenor would of topped out at 110 or 119 not at 100 thats just dosen't seem right???

Message: ok thats better i took a look at a dakota in the parking lot at my work it was a slt 4X4 club cab but it looked very low to the ground and i couldnt figure it out until i saw the V6 badge on the fender ,cause i knew the 4x4 were lifted higher than a 4x2 I guess only w/ a V8..though

Message: Yes that does work. You have to hold it down though for it to work. If you are too afraid to try it while driving (like I was) first try it in a parking lot or something, there is no grinding of the starter. Ive only done it like twice but it is quite a rush and gets back at those freakin cars with high limiters.
