Message: j, no matter how you slice it, you can change the compression by using differant rings. you can mill the head, but if you do, you will have to take material off of the intake manifold to compensate for the differance, and also it will change the geometry in the rockers, and the way the pushrods sit in the lifters ect. in other words, its not the best idea.
another way is to take material out of the combustion chambers to lower the CR, and add material to increase the CR.
the best way IMO is to just change the pistons. the dished ones will keep the CR low, the flat top pistons will raise it a little, and the domed ones, are for high CR's
Redneck, who are you talking to?

Message: Kota your cool. I got no beefs with you. If you
really did blow a 100+ mile engine theres no
problem with that but I believe you didnt I dont
know why people come down on you so hard.
you have one hell of a nice machine. I'm talkin
about the dorks that talk about changing rings
and stuff

Message: I'm not recommending milling the heads to change cr. bd11bd said that milling the heads would increase compression and I was just trying to make the point that milling your heads or pop up pistons etc have no effect on compression, only on the compression ratio. How much compression you have depends on how well the chamber is sealed (rings, valve seats etc).

Message: k, that makes sence, but i think egghead (or whatever his name is) wanted me to get a new short block. "You would buy a 360 short block, change rings to increase the compression"
if it was a new SB, then the rings would be fine, and changing them would not yield any more compression than i had started with.
and before anyone changes there rings, they should do a compression check to make sure the rings are bad.
FWIW, i did a compression check on my engine not too long before i put the blower on it, and the cylenders were 6% differanct. that is from the highest to lowest. (not 6% range from EACH cyl..that would be like 48% diff...i knew i would have to clarify that for you) wich is well within the 10% recomended limit.
when i hit 100k, ill do another check, and let you know how its going.

Message: Ifn yawl want to increase yer compressureinyer engine jest use duct tape fer yer haid gaskit bee sher to put sum of that RTV stuff on them seems so that them gases dont leeks out then grind down them pushrodsto keep that geometry right in those rockerarms. make sher you use that blue RTV stuff cause it werks better ifin it squishes out frum under the haid and makes them little flappy things that wissle ifin it leeks. Message: if that 01 ferrari had half the parts that a 9.9sec. camaro had and half the nitrous, it would run at least 9 flat. thats also why it sounds like a 9000rpm motorcycle-like al all aluminum go-cart. people buy exotics because they are exotic or because they sound cool, talk to an owner.
