I drive about 1000 miles a week (during the summer months) in my Dakota. I have tried this very thing a few times. I have found that there is MAYBE .5 MPG diff. if i drive with the cruise set on 70 or 80. I still get around 17-18 mpg on the highway in my V6 with 3.92 gears, thus the lower than expected mileage. Just my two cents.
P.S. My truck will turn 20000 miles this week and I have had it approx. 49 weeks! Gotta love it!

I have found my Dakota likes the the 65 to 75 mph range. Being in Houston, we have the 'enviromental' speed limit of 55(my cruise control gets a workout). IF all you want to look is gas mileage, then yes I do get 1 to 2 mpg better. But, I like to factor in time as well, and in my opinion, I do better at 65 to 75.
