you should be fine but like handi2 said just take it easy and you'll be fine my neighbor carries one of those truck campers the kind that slides into the bed of the truck w/ his Dakota and he does pretty good going up hills and everything he goes up to the White mts in New Hampshire from RI almost every weekend and he pulls a Little trailer too w/ his kids bikes and stuff.. ..only thing is the gas mileage is even worse than it already is,..he has the 4.7 also

Derek, You will have no problem I have a 2002 Quad Cab and I also own a 1969 dodge Charger R/T that I'm in the process of restoration and I pull mine back and forth to the different shops to work on. I also just got back from a camping trip to Colorado and pulled a 3000 pound camper and got an average gas milage of 12 mpg in the mountians to the best of 18. Not bad! I'm happy

I pulled my '72 dart on a ~1500# trailer with my '99 5.2 4x4 w/3.55 gears. No problem, just recommend you have a brake controller-- or plan on replacing your brakes soon after pulling without electric brakes (on the trailer). The stopping power of the Dakota w/a load is terrible-dangerous.

PLan on using Drive, as OD isn't suitable for towing (especially that load) with 3.55 gears.. You can run 60-65 mph @ 3000 rpm all day long.

I pulled my 1992 Mustang GT on a full trailer from Pittsburgh to Youngstown with O/D off going up and down hills with no problems.

Oh yeah, and I still got 13.5 MPG!

I love this 4.7
