Subject: 01 QC Powergate install help IP: Logged
Message: hey guys,
i installed the Pace-Edwards Powergate on my '01 QC this past weekend. had no trouble getting it into the tailgate or running the wire thru the frame (apart from being sore the next day) but having one helluva time getting the damn thing to work.
on the instructions sent with it, it says to hook up the wire taps to an orange/black and pink/black wire. however, there is a note that says 4-door '01 models (like mine) should look for orange/black and a dark blue wire. well, after craning my neck under the dash for too long, i finally found what i thought to be the right ones. no workie. wire-taps were installed right, and nothing at all.
so first of all, where is the connector i need to be looking for? the wires i ended up tapping were in the little module behind the kick panel right directly in front of the drivers side door. it was the largest harness in that module and had both wires (orange/black and dark blue). when i unhooked it, the door locks did stop working so i figured i shoulda been close to getting it.
after banging my head for a while i did find another harness that plugged into the back of the fuse panel with the right colored wires. but since i had no more wire taps i didnt go any further. when i unplugged it the door locks still worked so i dunno...
so anyway, if someone that has successfully installed a Pace-Edwards Powergate on a 2001 Quad Cab Dak please help me out?

Message: Not sure if it is the same, but I bought a tailgate lock from www.realtruck.com and the instructions I had worked great, I had one question and got great email response from the manufacturer. www.dynolock.net I think this one guy makes them and everyone else resells them. His email address is dynolock@swbell.net and his name is Ed. Check out is website and send him an email. My prob was it took about 7 or 8 cycles before the plunger acutally locked. Unlocked OK just wouldn't lock. I think it just had to settle in. I have a CC and wired to the org/blk and blu wires in the module by the drivers left foot. I think your on the same wires as mine and mine works. Good Luck

Message: DarkDak: was the one wire mostly black with a small orange stripe or was it mostly orange with a black stripe?
the wires i tapped in to were solid blue and then a black with small orange stripe. i thought at one time i heard it work but it hadnt moved. i moved it manually a couple times to make sure it wasnt catching, just couldnt seem to make it move with the door locks :(
thanks for your help though, at least i know i'm looking at the right wire harness now...

Message: Org/blk means Orange Wire with black stripe. I am pretty sure that if your on a black wire with an orange stripe, your on the wrong wire. You should be able to get more taps at Radio Shack or an Auto parts store. Look for the instructions for the Dakota at the www.dynolock.net website. The other place you can check out is www.the12volt.com, they have wiring harness information for everything. I had a post a few weeks ago under 2002 Dodge Dakota CC requesting the info and the wiring harness is still in the forum, you'll just have to dig down or search for it.
