Should I look to the injectors as the problem or would this electrical/PCM related?

I have the exact same situation with my 92 318. Mine's all stock, but the same issue. Have you gotten any help?

Thanks.

I have a well maintained 93 dakota 318 v8 with 137,000 miles. About a month ago, I got a check engine light and rough idle/running two days in a row. It smoothed out after about 12 miles. Dealer replaced timing chain and sprockets, cleaned out the throttle body and ran fuel injector cleaner through, among other things.

On at least two occasions since, the check engine light came on accompanied by rough running/idle which, again, cleared up before I got to work.

I get code 27 from the check engine light.

Anyone been down this road or have ideas?

Turns out that on mine, a hose of some sort was lose. The dealer told me that a small radiator return hose was lose, which sprayed coolant on a sensor and that was my issue. The sensor had to be replaced ($14) and the hose ($6). Of course, the labor was a BIT more.... =-)

I presented at the dealer with the rough idle and check engine light on this week. Their computer showed a problem with injector #4 control circuit.

They replaced the injector (?) and the PCM. I'll have to give it some time to see if this fixed it.

Had a similar problem in 2001 except the rough idle and check engine light would infrequently happen while driving. The problem would disappear on restart. Was able to get to the dealer with it happening and their computer found no signal from PCM. (I didn't know how to read the check engine codes then). They replaced PCM, then the altenator (the amp meter was jumping around)...still had the problem...they replaced the PCM again (under warranty)...it lost memory (stranded me) - no power to anything. They replaced the memory and that brings me to the top paragraph.

Because I have had so many problems, the dealer covered the latest PCM and injector. Thank goodness because I had just about lost all confidence in them!

Preliminarily, with the new PCM, it now seems to have more power than ever...I mean hot! It will pass everthing on the road but the gas station!

FYI, I was told this truck came new from the factory with a package that included larger valves, shaved head and some cam. I bought it from the original owner (a co-worker) with 38,000 miles in December of 1998. He said he had the papers on "performance package" but hasn't come across them.

On another note, I had to rebuild the trans at 90,000. Did a water pump at 99,000 and again in Jan. of this year...roughly 30,000 miles between the two water pumps.
