Subject: Bad U-Joints?
IP: Logged

Message:
My 99 5.2 auto 4x4 ext cab is stock, and I notice when I'm starting out from a dead stop, the truck seems to bind (push the throttle and rpm's go up but truck won't gain speed) while making a left turn,(only happens on left turns) then once the truck straightens out the tranny seems to catch and the truck shudders a little and then it shifts fine and I'm on my way. Could it be bad U-Joints or maybe a tranny problem? Any help is appreciated!

Its not the U-Joints. Its likely the rear differential not allowing the rear wheels to turn at different rates. My truck does a a similiar thing only if I'm making as sharp as turn as possible right or left because the diff doesn't allow the outer tires to turn as fast as they need to so it causes both tires to slip a little which sometimes causes a shudder if the pavement is dry. This is normal for the Dakots from what I know. Are you taking really sharp left turns and not as sharp right turns? Thats the only thing I can think of that would cause it to be only when turning left???

Thanks DodgedogJB, It happens if I take an easy left turn or a hard left, but it has never happened on a right turn, I do have the limited slip diff (forgot to mention that before) could that be part of the problem?
